first American steamboat, leaves New York City for Albany, New York, on the Hudson River, inaugurating the first commercial steamboat service in the world.
But, months prior to that, in January, over in Merry Olde, Pall Mall Street in London becomes the first street to be lit by gaslights, ushering in a new era in night safety.
Also in 1807, Amurican politics got REALLY nasty, with former Vice President Aaron Burr being tried for TREASON. He was acquitted. Burr, of course, is more famously known for his pistol duel with Alexander Hamilton, which he won, killing Hamilton. This act didn't win him any friends either.

and gave people like Tigerdug23® interesting careers. Interesting also that in the water, a relatively small tugboat can pull a 200+ ton cargo ship but on land it seems to require a truck with a 6 liter V8 Hemi and oversized tires to pull a 6x10 foot trailer with a riding lawnmower on it.
