bourbon to buy and serve to a guest who does NOT appreciate fine bourbons or scotches? I have one and he is a guzzler not a sipper/taster.

I think Buffalo Trace is the best value on the bourbon market unless it’s marked above suggested retail (which is common these days). My step down would be Beam. Then literally whatever’s cheapest.

I would say Jim Beam if he just wants it in a diet coke. But Makers Mark never seems to offend anyone. Personally, when it comes to lower shelf, I like Wild Turkey 101.

Crown on the rocks. If you have guest that don’t drink bourbon/whisky a low proof is best like Crown at 80%. You can also go with a flavored bourbon/whisky like Crown Peach.

“Jack Daniel’s was told by the government that they had to call it a Bourbon,” explained a Jack Daniel’s spokesperson. “We objected and used the fact that our whiskey is different and ‘doesn’t have the characteristics of a bourbon.’” Reagor Motlow made several trips to the government office in Louisville to argue his case. Tests were conducted in the government laboratory there. In the end, the government concluded that Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey had “neither the characteristics of bourbon or rye whiskey but rather is a distinctive product which may be labeled whiskey.” The decision was spelled out in an official letter withdrawing the agency’s earlier objections to the label as proposed.

What’s the difference between Jack Daniel’s and Bourbon? While both are in fact whiskeys, they do have some differences that distinguish them. Jack Daniel’s can be called a bourbon in some ways; it does have that extra step called the ‘Lincoln Country Process’ that changes it from what a bourbon should be, and is therefore known as a Tennessee Whiskey instead. Also, while a Jack Daniel’s can go from 15% up to 70% alcohol content, bourbon can go from 40% and up to 80%. One other, but important difference between the two, is that Jack Daniel’s is a whiskey brand, while bourbon is a type of American whiskey.

Thank you for the explanation. I have tried to appreciate the brown liquors, but I do not enjoy them. Both parents are/were Jack Daniels aficionados. Dad liked it with branch water and mom still enjoys Jack & Ginger Ale.
