Heading to Savannah, Ga for vacation this week. Recommendations?
Jun 27, 2022, 7:36 AM

|
We are heading to Savannah for 5 days this week. Any of you guys have any recommendations for good food and attractions? We will be staying on River Street so I know we'll be in the heart of everything. Also going over to Tybee Island for a day. Any recommendations of what part of the island to visit? Go Tigers and I will be decked out of my tiger gear.

If they still exist, take the Old Savannah Horse Drawn Tour.

When I took it 37 years ago, there were a surprising number of historical houses in Old Savannah that were currently owned by out of town "stars". The (then) recently retired Joe Namath was one example.
This was obviously years before he became a Medicare Advantage Plan Man.

The Shrimp Shack has some of the best shrimp tacos you can buy. Nothing fancy, after eating a few doors down is Leopolds Ice cream. Don't miss it

Agree on the Crab Shack on Tybee Island as really good, but don’t go expecting fried seafood. They don’t offer it unless they changed this year.

Be careful in Savannah as the transition from safe tourist area to a no go area happens quickly...especially at night.

Tour fort Pulaski...very very cool. It's on the way to Tybee.
Also check out the 8th air-force museum. It's north of town but south of the airport on the highway.

Shrimp house on River St is decent for food....

Open air market right across the street for novelties.
Concur on pink house, Pulaski and mighty 8th.
Alligator Soul is good. Block and a half off River.
UGA aquatic center on Skidaway is cool. Especially with kids
Steam boat cruises are nice in the evening.
Crab Shack is the most touristy restaurant there. If you like steamed food, that's overpriced, head there. Gator pit will excite the little ones.
Savannah smiles if you like to drink and dueling pianos vibe.
City Market for Wild Wings and such. I actually like Bar Bar downstairs from WW.
Enjoy your trip

We were there for a convention a few years ago and a pretty large group of us went to Savannah Smiles dueling piano bar and had a blast. I see there is now a restaurant named Rhett right next door to Savannah Smiles. Never been there but it must be good!

That location used to be pretty rough while I was there. Couple of shootings, and they closed up. Kinda sketchy walking past to get to Smiles around then.
There's actually a nice bar below smiles that was private, adequately named Speak Easy. Really tight, but there was always talent in there!
309 West, and another bar (had a bucking bronco ride) that I can't remember the name also had some pretty gals around.
I miss Savannah!

Cute, good seafood, open back deck looking over Channel between Big & Little Tybee, since a western view the sunsets are very good, a place locals go to, inside seating & bar too, opens at 5 I believe.

Crystal Beer Parlor is a great place to eat. It's a few blocks outside the Historic District. That area gets sketchy and fast. If you go, drive or Uber.

The wife and I just returned from a 4 day trip to Tybee for our friends 50th. We went to Savannah for a day trip and did the Off The Beaten Path walking food tour. It's about a three hour tour that consists of stops at five local restaurants as well as some history of the city. We absolutely loved it. Our guide (Brenden) was very entertaining. Enjoyed Tybee as well. We were staying around the corner from Fannies on the beach. Best pina colada's ever. Enjoy your trip.

Day trip to Daufuskie. I believe they have a ferry daily now. Rent a golf cart and tour the island. Make sure to stop at Freeport for music and a cold beverage. Lucy Belles cafe for lunch. You will have a great day.

Leaving 8am for today Savannah, Coming back Friday. My favorite restaurant is Shrimp Factory on River Street. Other restaurants are great also. If you get a chance, try Paula Deen, so good for lunch but you have to go 2 hours early, will tell you when to come back. We will be staying on house on Tybee River (like better than ocean) for fishing.

I would drive right on past Savannah continue driving on 95 to Amelia Island just north of Jacksonville. You will not be disappointed in the beach and they have several great places to eat. Savannah and Tybee island are dumps.

I was there last week on a five day stay at Omni Resort. Great place, staff is top shelf and the food is great. Only left the the resort for a four hour chartered fishing trip. Had a great time. Highly recommend. I stopped going to Tubee and Savannah years ago.

When you're exploring about the town's reaches this is a cool day long hop-a-long for sure.
Check out the insides of some of the old churches and houses also. Craftsmanship and old wood aromas. Nothing like it.
