Has Urban even watched Travis play?

I really don't understand why everyone has forgotten how hard he runs. He's not a "space player". Yes he is great in space but he is also a very hard runner who can break a couple tackles on an inside run and take it to the house. He's a beast!! It would seem to me you would be less predictable if you played him in the back field where he can run or catch a pass.Come on Urban get in the game!!

NFL coaches do not get to where they are by not knowing what they are doing. In the NFL, the only resemblance to college is there are 22 players with pads on and they play with a football. I think Travis will make it but we all know dozens of former Tiger greats that we all thought would make it and they struggled or were not drafted.

At this point, Urban has not proven himself to be an NFL coach.

Spurrier and Saban weren't up the challenge. I'll wait for some results before I label Urban an NFL coach. At the moment, he's just a coach who is about to find out if he can coach in the NFL

Nick Saban was actually much more successful than people want to give him credit for. He did improve that team. He simply didn’t have a good quarterback. And he quit and went back to college after only a couple of years. But they did get better his first year. And he had QB issues his second year. Had he stuck with it a couple more years and gotten a quarterback he probably would have been very successful. This is a narrative people love to push that isn’t supported by the real facts.

There have been numerous college coaches going back to the 70s and 80s plus Jimmy Johnson in the 90s that were successful in college and did well in the NFL.

Urban Meyer is a jerk. (My opinion is obviously influenced by the fact that he coached at Florida, akin to members on this board talking about any former coot coach.)

I think he is a guy who could not sustain the high level of success he brought to the Gators and the pressure got to him, so he quit. When things started getting rough in Columbus, because of poor decisions he made, he tucked tail and ran again.

BUT.... there is no doubt the man can coach. He understands offensive football and can figure out ways to utilize his players and score points. He is a great evaluator of talent and can develop that talent (at least over a short period of time).

Just because he's a jerk, do not mistake that for being a fool. He knows the talent and ability of ETN. He will figure out the best way to utilize that talent.

Good call, Bret... but, will he figure out a way to use his own best talent, coaching-wise?

Go Tigers!!!

Seems like any time he started losing more than a game or 2, he couldn't handle it. It's going to be interesting to see how he handles the NFL where even the best teams lose 4-6 games a year.

He was forced out at OSU because he lied about his assistant

coach's arrest history and the extent to which he knew, he didn't tuck tail nor did he run

It's very tough to break tackles running

between the tackles in the NFL. Those guys just don't miss many. Etienne is pretty powerful for this size, but he's not a big back that's gonna run through many tackles against NFL front 7 players.

Etienne has the speed and agility to guys miss in the open field though, and he's probably strong enough to break some tackles against NFL DBs.

Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins, Grady Jarrett and Aaron Donald will have no problem tackling ETN in the box. I love some Travis, but he is more CJ than Derrick Henry. ETN will split time in the backfield his 1st year, and he needs some stout offensive line play and play calling to succeed. Based on last year Jags' run blocking, this is possible.

I'm all in on 2021 Jags.

ETN’s skill set mirrors Alvin Kamara. If they use him in the same way he will be very successful in the NFL. I hope Urban gets this right.
