Great ST play from certain teams always amazed me..

With VT & ole Coach Beamer being one team that lived by the blocked FG or Kick..and believe his Son has carried on this tradition at usc.
What other teams can you remember that have excelled with their Special Teams, and how?
Oh, I lament that Clemson has rarely been concerned with stellar ST play, imho.

I think Clemson might have been better under Danny Ford, but I realize this is now over 35 years ago. That's a long time to go with so-so ST play.

By another team or two or three..so guess we don’t recognize or even know or understand good ST play when we see it Since we’ve had very little of it in last umpteen years to gauge it by.
But figures don’t lie and Clemson is notoriously rated at a terrible #80 to #120 in ST play.

U would think teams with better athletes would have the best special teams, but often not the case. I truly believe it’s just the emphasis coaches put on it.
We were average during the run with Dabo , usually didn’t lose games with it , and often didn’t win games because of it.
Sabans FG/ XP unit was atrocious for several years. You’d think Saban could recruit whatever kicker he wanted, but it cost them or about cost them several games.
It seems Dabo has always taken a “ don’t let it beat u” approach to special teams. However, now it’s contributing to defeats.
Our punter is just bad. His performance in the UGA game was atrocious, inside of a climate controlled venue where most average punters turn into strong punters. Crazy he hasn’t at least given someone else a chance. Our FG kicker could have went anywhere, yet his blocking is inexcusable to where he has to get the ball up quicker than usual. If our FG unit depends on our best defensive player to be effective, then that’s a coaching issue
