Golf trip.....

Has anyone ever played golf at and around Hickory Knob golf course?

Trying to find a different venue for a golf trip for around 50 people.

Been going to Pinehurst for years but looking for something different.

Thanks

Augusta National every year. Same crowd, around 50. They have terrific accommodations and the golf course is real nice.

That trip too is getting old, we are thinking about Boscobel for our next one.

Go Tigers!

It depends on how long you're staying. We used to have 24 go to Myrtle Beach or Michigan every year. One year we would play Myrtle and South Myrtle, then the next year we would switch up play North Myrtle and Ocean Isle, NC courses. There are also other ways to book.

You’re going to have some disappointments going from Pinehurst to Hickory Knob. I’d go for Kiawah Island’ The Ocean Course. There’s also Congaree Golf Club near Beaufort and Yeamans Hall Club near Charleston. These are all premium greens fees clubs but are worth the scratch. Especially Kiawah Islands Ocean Course. The views are spectacular.

but the course is really difficult, especially on a windy day.

There is no doubt! I’ve hit many dead solid straight shots that got bent into the rough by wind gusts.

that is about 165 yards and plays directly into the wind coming off the ocean can be an absolute bear. On a clam day, I would play a 6 iron. The last time I played it, the win was howling so I hit a 3-iron and still couldn't get it to the green. Ended up in the waste area that run from tee to green.

No one is playing Congaree or Yeaman's Hall without playing with a member or having a member sponsor them ..... especially 50 people.

Keep in mind, the course is located in a State Park. It a fun course but generally could use a little extra love and attention.

You're close to Greenwood so, as an alternative, you might consider renting a place on the lake and playing Stoney Point and Grand Harbor.

Stoney Point is at the northern end of the lake near Harris Landing while Grand Harbor is at the southern end of the lake near Greenwood State Park.

I saw this online the other day but never been there in GA

Some of the other places are very good suggestions

Went to Santee and played 4 courses for about 25 years. The courses there are hit or miss. They were good this year.

Thanks guys....we normally have a four day tournament played on four different courses so I was hoping to find an area that would accommodate.

We live around Conway/Myrtle Beach so we play the local courses all the time.

Thanks

Robert Trent Jones trail is the best golf trips we have taken. Quality courses and most have quality accommodations. They aren't far apart. I've played most of the courses. Worse part is they are in Bama for the most part but in beautiful country.

I would definitely choose John's Island or Kiawah Island. There are 6 or seven courses that are always in good shape, Including the Ocean Course. All of them except 2 or public I believe.

Since Hickory Knob is a state park, I think you will love Arrowhead Point just over the state line at Richard B Russell. It is gorgeous and one of my favorite places to go.

I second the Wild Dunes suggestions. Play those two and then add Dunes West and pick up one more in Mount Pleasant.

The summer I took some classes at Clemson. Wife and I took a weekend trip there. Been 30+ years, so get more recent information.

We enjoyed it. Nice course, nice lodge, nice restaurant. Once you get there, you shouldn't have to leave the grounds and head into town for anything.
