took time to visit cootlumbia before they decided that ranking?
My favorite quote:
"Instead, we should just lament that Kiplinger's failed to mention the stirring sound of a rooster crowing, which is broadcast throughout downtown on Fridays during football season.
Now that's culture."
Lol really? I guess dictionaries in cootlumbia have a different definition of what culture is then what I've always understood it to be?

never actually visited the City.
All of the gangbangers, crack dens, ##### houses and homeless people not to mention a smelly and polluted river would have all been stirring reminders that Columbia is a boil on the buttocks of South Carolina.

Around Columbia thank you for your kind words regarding our home. NOT! I have lived here since 1995 and do not agree with your assessment. It has been, and will continue to be, a great place to live and raise a family.

Which is why people shouldn't be so vicious with their words, really. All you're trying to do by doing so is either make someone else feel bad, or yourself feel good, neither of which is a very noble endeavor.

While I am sure there are some areas, it is my opinion that Columbia is, by and large, an absolute cesspool.

I was born in SC. I live out of state. I enjoy going back 'home' and have spent many weeks through the years in Charleston, along the Strand, down in Sea Island territory, up around Clemson, and at various lakes and parks all over my lovely home state.
Columbia has the least appeal to me of any place in the Palmetto State. It seems mostly nondescript like Birmingham, Jackson, Raleigh, or any of those other midland southern places.
Bland. Hot. Boring.

Maybe that's the thing for me: "undescript" doesn't seem bad

I'm an "undescript" kind of guy. I'm not much for lakes or oceans, since I don't swim. I'm not much for mountains, since it's colder there. If I "go out," it's to Olive Garden or something, so snazzy places to eat/hang out aren't high on my list.
My family is here, and my church is here. That pretty much sums it up for me.

or maybe even Lexington, heck people are starting to move as far away from the city as Gilbert and Prosperity and commuting just to avoid living amongst the Columbians.

BigCU, you must live here in cola, b/c you have to live here to know the real truth about this stink hole. And you seem to have hit the nail square in your observation of cootlumbia.

One of, if not THE best single reason to live in Columbia: NO Yankee tourists. None. Since General Sherman.

I live in Columbia. It's not some kind of utopia, but I don't have any problems. Of course, I don't go around looking for any.
The silly part is when people make some kind of competition out of it. Why would someone from Charleston want to trash another city, and vice versa?
And why is it that Clemson fans always trash Columbia, and USC fans always trash Clemson? What's the point?

I've lived in Columbia in various areas

West Columbia, Cayce, Northeast Cola (Columbia Mall area), and Five Points.
I've also lived in 15 different cities/towns over the years.
Columbia comes in at #14, just ahead of Kalamazoo, Michigan. It's not good.

I've only lived in two places: Columbia and Greenville

We moved to Columbia when I was 10, so I really don't have much of an opinion of Greenville. But Columbia seems nice to me, and I have no desire to live anywhere else.

if you ever moved away from there, you would never want to go back, I can assure you.
Even though I did for a short time, to take a job there. But my primary goal in taking that job was to get back out as quickly as possible.
Convenience to other places (Charleston, Charlotte, Greenville, Augusta, Savannah, ocean, mountains) is the ONLY positive to living there.

Atlanta, etc. Didn't really like anything better than Columbia. I absolutely detested Charleston, for example. I'd love to never set foot in that place again. But I don't run around saying "Charleston sucks," because for many people, it doesn't, if that like that kind of thing.
As far as LIVING somewhere, it's true I don't have a frame of reference. But all the things and people I care about are here, so I honestly don't see myself ever moving away.

If your idea of good living is "lots of insurance stores and

Couple this with the piped-in sound of a rooster crowing (classy).
Place is a ####hole.

Was born and raised in Columbia and could not get out fast enough. That being said it was a great place to be a kid because you don't know any better. It is like Montgomery Al . The only reason it exists is because it is a state capital. If I move back to SC it would be Gville or the coast hands down. Columbia's faults have nothing to do with that school located there . It is location
