Four Tigers Garner All-ACC Academic Indoor Track & Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. --(release) Four members of the Clemson track and field program have been named to the All-ACC Academic Indoor Track & Field Team, the conference office announced earlier Tuesday afternoon. Lafranz Campbell, Laurie Barton, Trishauna Hemmings and Harleigh White are Clemson's four recipients of this year's honor. Barton and Campbell receive the indoor track and field honor for the second consecutive year, while Hemmings and White receive the honor for the first time in their careers.

A native of St. Catherine, Jamaica, Campbell is currently working towards earning his Communications degree and has become the third male athlete in program history to garner the conference's academic award multiple times in their career following today’s announcement. Campbell contested the men’s 60-meter hurdles across three meets this indoor season, earning a top-5 finish in each race. At the ACC Indoor Championships, Campbell collected a second-team All-ACC honor after running 7.85 seconds to finish fourth overall in the final of the men’s 60m hurdles.

White receives the conference recognition as a senior nursing student from Huntingtown, Md. This past indoor season saw White become the program’s No. 8 all-time performer for the women’s indoor triple jump thanks to her best of 13.03m (42-9) set during the 2021 ACC Indoor Championships. White’s historic performance secured her a second-team All-ACC honor in the event for the second consecutive year. During the Tigers’ regular season, White earned three top-5 finishes while surpassing 12.40m at each meet.

Hemmings has earned the ACC’s academic recognition after producing one of the finest indoor seasons for the program in recent history. The 2021 indoor campaign saw Hemmings named first-team All-America in the women’s 60m hurdles, second-team All-America in the women’s 200m, ACC champion in the women’s 200m, first-team All-ACC in the women’s 60m hurdles and 200m, and be the ACC Indoor Championships Female Track MVP. Hemmings’ excellence was evident throughout the season, as she ran the No. 3 all-time mark in both the women’s 60m hurdles (8.09) and 200m (23.12). Hemmings, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, is currently working towards earning her degree in Communications.

Barton earns this year’s indoor honor after setting Clemson’s school record in both the women’s 800m and 1,000m. During the NCAA Indoor Championships, Barton ran the No. 7 all-time collegiate mark in the 800m (2:01.21) and finished as the national runner-up in the event. Barton earned a top-3 finish in eight of her nine races this indoor season, including three first-place finishes. Earlier on Tuesday, Barton was named a member of the All-ACC Academic Cross Country Team. Barton is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Athletic Leadership after earning her Health Science degree in May 2020. Barton’s just the fifth woman in Clemson history to receive the conference’s academic award for both cross country and indoor track.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
