I’m aware. Happy as can be currently. Not the best coach we’ve had imo but the most accomplishments I agree. That comes with longevity not being the best.

Most wins most losses no conference championships in tenure reg season or tourney. Having his career year with a chance to reach elite 8. Proud of what the team has been able to accomplish this year with this coach. Aaaand more to come with a Neff ext ension. We will end up paying this guy $40M for 20 years of mediocrity. And some will still be singing his praises.

Look at the last two years. When you do, you should realize that the tired trope about us being mediocre needs to stop.

I think you should stop telling people they’re wrong when it may be you. Outsiders who understand basketball do not hold Clemson in above average territory. Please stop letting feelings get in the way of facts. Over-performing is fine, but we are not an above average program. We didn’t even make it last year so not sure why that was brought up

We've won 46 games the last two years. We have finished in the top third of the ACC two years in a row. We are in the Sweet 16. We have a top 25 recruiting class this year.
This is far above mediocre or being an average program.
Other people respect our program and don't consider it mediocre. Why do you?
Oh that's right, because you have an anti-Brownell agenda and can't acknowledge that our basketball program has improved. Talk about letting feelings get in the way of facts!

The fans businesses have been paying for NIL laden players the last three years, greatly improving our talent, he has taken advantage of getting players he wouldn’t through recruiting in the past.
This has accounted for the improvement in his records and teams. His improvement hasn’t been his coaching but experienced talent from other places and NIl recruiting, in my opinion.
I’m thankful for it but don’t say he hasn’t had support💰because Clemson fans support their teams like no other especially when they already have a good coach.

Statistics can be twisted any way you want in order to prove the desired outcome. That is what you do. Who has the most losses at Clemson btw. And so far as statistics go…at least 98% of people who eat corn die.

Yep JK and his minions conveniently leave out all of the negatives. How about 2 losses in the first round of the losers tournament. How could a great motivator such as JK’s CBB let that happen?

that's Brownell's rate of making the tourney versus all other coaches combined in the 64 team era. Plus he has the benefit of a 68 team field.

Interesting since we have never made a Final Four so winning a National Championship once in our history would be a awesome feat. I hope I am blessed to still be alive if that happens.

I would argue that Coach Oliver Purnell

Had a more impressive resume at Clemson. I have never followed basketball much so, I'm unsure why he left Clemson or if he was fired. From what a friend told me, we simply couldn't afford what he was asking for at the time. However, from what I understand he took Clemson to the Tournament every season but one whenever he was at Clemson. So, in half the time that Coach Brownell has been at Clemson he took Clemson to the NCAA 6 times if I'm not mistaken.

As soon as you said never followed basketball much, you said it all.
Go look and then come back to post your explanation of how OP had better tenure than BB.
It will be a funny post.

OP was much better than Brownell, and imo, had the right formula for Clemson

he got athletes that were elite caliber, played a full court havoc-creating style, and tried to get them to develop into basketball players.
For his short stint, we were competitive with Duke and UNC and the student attendance reflected that.
Brownell is basically the most average of Clemson coaches, maintaining the winning rate and tournament appearance rate of our history and has records due to longevity. Right now he is at a high point and if he can maintain this level then more power to him. I hope he can.

And No
This falls under the ludicrous nonsensical term "alternative facts"
from what I understand he took Clemson to the Tournament every season He made NCAA Tournament 3 times at Clemson. Coach OP still has never won a game in an NCAA Tournament in all of his coaching career.

Well, OP took over after Larry Shyatt. So his first few years had to suffer through that.
His first year was a 10-win season.
But his second year was 16-16, with an NIT invite. Year 3 was 19-15, another NIT, 2nd round. Year 4 25-11, NIT runner-up. Years 5, 6, 7 all 20+ wins and NCAA invites (lost in first round every time though).
Brownell inherited OPs team and NCAA streak, taking it to 4 in a row and getting the win (albeit in a "first four" game).
OP winning percentages are somewhat better than Brownell's (.605 vs .584) and ACC is somewhat worse (.446 vs .504); Brownell has 20 games in unbalanced ACC; OP had to play 16 games, and at least part of the time had to play everyone twice (Va Tech, BC, Miami added during his tenure and schedules changed). OP's NCAA rate was .428 with 3 consecutive trips, but NCAAT wins at 0%. Brownell's NCAA rate is .285, but has won 5 of 8 games (.625), never invited in back-to-back years let alone 3 consecutive. OP's team took one team to the ACCT final.
Rick Barnes, though, went to the NCAA 3 of 4 years (3 consecutive, 0.750 rate), made a Sweet 16, won 2-5 games played in NCAAT. Also beat UNC in ACCT for first victory against UNC in the state of NC. Pointed and yelled at Dean Smith. Played a game against UNC where only 4 players were eligible over the last 2+ minutes, the team having been called for I think 51 fouls.
Cliff Ellis also made a Sweet 16, having garnered a berth in 3 of 10 years (.300 rate), won 3-6 games played in NCCAT (.500). Cliff Ellis won ACC regular season once, and was ACC Coach of the Year twice. Cliff Ellis got Clemson Horace Grant, Dale Davis, and Eldon Campbell (multiple NBA title rings in the group).

We lost in the first round all three times, despite being the higher seed.
Purnell was a program builder, and he did a great job of that here just as he did previously at Radford, Old Dominion, and Dayton. He showed that he could get programs to a certain point but not beyond that. He has a career 0-6 record in the NCAA Tournament.
I would say Purnell's crowning achievement at Clemson was getting us to the ACC Tournament championship game. That's quite an accomplishment here.
He had some good ACC finishes. We finished third once, tied for 5th twice, and were 8th or 9th the other four years. These were the days when the ACC had 11-12 teams, not 15 like we have now.

I will not post negative about Brownell, as he met my preseason expectation for this team that I had. I will say that Purnell did not have the recruits that Brownell has had. He did give a base to build Clemson to better program standards. Brownell has just been a little bit slower building to where I thought we could and should be. That being said, I am content with what he has done this year and hope we play a few more games this year.
Dare to dream the impossible, because without dreams our vision is blinded.
