Everything we used to do on offense

Oct 16, 2021, 2:46 PM

Elliott has abandoned. Most of it came from Chad. Some motion on every play, jet sweeps, fake jet sweeps, controlled tempo(fast and slow), power running game, and one deep shot per quarter.

Part of the reason for that is DJ is not a mobile QB like Trevor and DW. He can’t buy time to open up his long developing routes and we have zero short game since Rodgers left. And, obviously TE is really having a hard time adjusting his game plan to what we are TODAY.

And, who exactly are we running on a jet sweep?

Oct 16, 2021, 2:59 PM

All of our receivers are small forwards. No quick guy like Artavis, or Amari. It's useless with our current personnel. If you're going to run window dressing there needs to be a point to it

Simple fix. When Shipley comes back healthy, put him in the slot. Keep pace and Phil the one two punch out the backfield. You can use Shipley on jet sweeps and in the slot on short yard plays.

On paper it makes sense

however, in order for opposing teams not to dial in on just jet sweeps when Shipley is in the slot, he has to prove he can play the slot as and be a receiving threat. True freshman, off injury, never played the slot. Same issue that Taylor had. When he was out there the opposing D was tuned in to the jet sweep

IF Kenny Pickett was the Tiger QB you would not see much difference in the Tigers play from previous seasons. Unfortunately the coaches are trying to design an offense that is successful
Using DJ and the current OL. That is a BIG challenge for Elliott et al.

Agree, but Pickett is 10 times more mobile in the pocket than DJ lol.

The excuse will be that we don’t have the talent to execute it.

Oct 16, 2021, 3:23 PM

Which begs the question, why not?

The answer is either:

A. Recruiting
B. Player development
C. Both A and B

For a staff that makes roughly $15 million a year, and recruiting classes ranked in the top 5 nationally, I don’t understand.
