At what $12M can get you whenever you recruit the portal and pay players to come to your program. FSU now sits at 1-9. I've said it many times, you can spend the money and have a single season of success just like FSU did in 2023. However, it is an unsustainable business model and will cost your team dearly in the end.

If everybody but Clemson and the military schools are doing it

then sustainability isn't a factor. You go for the once a decade great team instead of being the sustainable 7-5 every year program that fades into the obscurity of pre christmas bowls and 2 star athletes.

Revenue sharing will boost high school recruiting this upcoming season and beyond. Clemson has the ability to recruit well because they're a TOP 20 program in revenue. Also, a Top team in NIL packages used for retention. If Clemson can get over the hump of this season and next season, then expect a trip to the playoff almost every season.

Some people are just fans of the football team

I am a fan because of the university. I prefer a program that fits in with the overall purpose of the school. Not one that seems separate full of players looking for a bag and that will chase the next dollar. That doesn't seem right for a college football team

I agree with you - however college football is now a pay-to-play sport

…there are no more student athletes playing college football for an education.
After the revenue sharing kicks in next year, then, the year after that should put the nail in the coffin for attending classes or worrying about about grades.
My loyalty to Clemson football has been, and always will be, because I attended and got a degree from Clemson, nothing more. That “fellow student/alumni” relationship with the players on the football team, and other sports, drove my connection and interest in following the Clemson football team.
As the professional, non-student-athlete model continues to solidify and tighten its grip over the entire business model of college athletics, it will loosen the grip of my sentimental attachment to Clemson football.

Agreed. I'm personally a fan of doing away with college athletics as a whole. It devalues the degree as a whole anyway. Let them just become a farm team for the NFL. Professional athletes masquerading as students is just stupid.

Explain to me how revenue sharing will boost recruiting for us? Everyone gets revenue sharing, and then they'll get their NIL deals on top of that. So every team in the ACC pays their players $50,000 or whatever a year. Then, those players can go out and work out NIL deals. The rich will continue to get richer and this won't help Clemson at all. The needle won't move.
Also, I'm not entirely sure how the revenue deal will work out, but if it's done on a conference level based on each conference's media rights, then Clemson will be left even further behind because the ACC media deal is so terrible compared to the other big conferences.

There should be a balance. College has become like the NFL, where you build your roster through the draft but augment and fortify your roster through free agency. You need to recruit well AND play the portal game to fill holes and build depth. Refusing to use the portal is foolish and a strategy that will ultimately fail the program. If the goal is to be elite and be relevant nationally, Dabo must change his philosophy.

It’s mind blowing that you are so focused on the portal, you are missing the big picture. The fact that you are using one team to make your point is silly given that every single team in the top 10 used the portal to improve their roster.
The big picture is we must have elite players to compete for a NC. Does not matter if they come from the HS ranks or the portal. If we won’t use the portal then the elite players must come from the HS ranks but we are no longer able to sign a top tier class as Dabo won’t pay the big upfront NIL. Our roster talent is on a steady decline. Look at our QB or DE rooms as prime examples.
The game has changed and Dabo has decided we are not going to engage in the madness. His stance can be seen by some as being noble but after next year when Woods, Parker and Cade are gone we will be just another mid ACC team.

What percentage of Clemson fans do you think ever thought that we should use the FSU model? I believe that we should be bringing in a couple of players a year on average to supplement certain positions, especially when we have young men transfer out. When you replace a junior that transfers out with a freshman it creates an imbalance in maturity and leadership.
I don't know any Clemson fans that disagree with Dabo's philosophy of being a developmental program. However, I know many that disagree with the extremes that he has taken it to. Before you ask me how many games that I have won, realize that nearly every analyst has the opinion that Dabo takes his stance too far, as well.
Your entitled to your opinion and Dabo has earned the right to do things however he wants, but please stop mischaracterizing the feelings of those of us who think we should use the transfer portal on occasion.

Agreed. I will say though that we are not developing our talent very well. How many of these kids are getting better and better each season? I don’t see the development needed to make Dabo’s strategy a winning one. Dabo has boxed himself into a corner that will ultimately be his demise here. The program is trending in the wrong direction. Unfortunately I don’t see this getting any better unless a major philosophical change occurs with Dabo.
