If Cleveland voids his contract over this, that is an expensive blow to DW. IT MIGHT BE IN HIS best interest in this case to pay the million dollars to settle this by having the suit dropped. Would Buzbee find others to keep milking the cash cow? Who knows, but it is a mess with several hundred million dollars on the line.

So this person didn’t feel compelled to come forward while this was on every news outlet, being actively litigated with multiple complainants, and only now does she have the “courage?” And all this by the same ambulance chasing lawyer…?
Does anyone have any common sense to at least be a little skeptical here? I know Bill doesn’t because..well…gotta type and respond without any analytical thinking.

Every word you said is correct but the answer to your question is no… most don’t have any common sense.
As you said… where was this when this case was literally in every headline in America. And of course it’s Busbee again. Dude is a snake.
It’s a total money grab and bc it’s a woman claiming it people automatically believe her.
DW4 didn’t rape anybody. The only thing he’s guilty of is being stupid.

Absolutely not. I think a majority in fact are just looking for cash. However, I do think at least a couple are possibly legitimate, which is why Buzbee has been able to milk this. He found 1 or 2 legitimate cases and piled on with whomever could convince to join

I feel any rape victim would seek criminal charges. Not civil litigation. 1 million dollars won’t help heal trauma. That’s the biggest a red flag too me. I feel like he may be guilty of soliciting lude acts for money. He needs to be careful. That Steve McNair documentary should open his eyes.

That’s how I view this too. Sad that he fell into that behavior. What a waste. It’s four years later and I’m hoping he’s matured, but I’m not convinced he has yet. This flaw in him was like catnip for those in the industry he frequented.

Too many on here seem to think that because he wasn't found guilty in a criminal trial that he didn't do it. I guess those people all believe OJ was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. based on standards for rules of evidence for criminal cases the Texas prosecutor would probably never have prosecuted DW, knowing that a conviction would be highly unlikely. I would like to know if victim/plaintiff actually ever filed a criminal complaint and, if so, what became of that. Likely not, cause then Buzbee would not get his 40-50% fee. Anyone know the answer?

The only reason Watson's case(s) ever went in front of a grand jury was because of the attention it was receiving. The optics of a DA "doing nothing" given how much attention there was on the case was not palatable. No one with a modicum of understanding of how criminal trials work would ever have expected that case to go to trial.
I'm not sure how a victim agreeing to participate in a criminal trial has any bearing here. It would not prohibit them from suing Watson in civil court. One does not preclude the other. Of the accuser's that did agree to participate in a criminal trial I believe all but one have settled civil suits against Watson.

We’ll see what actually comes forward here in terms of actual evidence.
As is typical, you immediately judge an individual’s motives behind their options based on your preconceived notions.
“One of my heroes”…
Your dismissal of this attorney’s deserved reputation.
The timing of this..in one of the only states that allows such after such a looongg period of time.
Right, he’s my hero, and I can’t have my hero tarnished so I refuse to believe a woman, 4-years removed from an alleged incident whereby physical evidence is non-existent, and only a year after the ambulance chasing lawyer has already milked this with wide spread media attention, without a single criminal complaint, filed a new suit.
And I’m wrong for being skeptical, and not only that I’m;
“Laying the foundation for many legitimate rape victims to be too afraid to come forward.”
Just because you can use word play doesn’t make it correct or appropriate. Issues like this are why I think the Chinese are ultimately going to rule us all.

also the accused of a crime has certain rights that he would not have in a civil case because the stakes are so much higher. She has a better chance to maintain some anonymity in a civil case. Because individuals do not file criminal charges. District attorneys do. Sexual assault (or whatever the jurisdictional equivalent is) is a notoriously challenging criminal charge to prove beyond a reasonable doubt because of its very nature. Sexual assault victims seeking justice in civil court where the burden of evidence is lower is not at all unique to this case.

I do not think a DA can bring a case if the victim doesn't at least file a report, especially in a case like this where it is his word versus hers. If she doent file a report then the DA wouldnt have anything to go on that a crime even occured.

I am not saying he did not do it, but why not file criminal charges instead of calling the glorified ambulance chaser lawyer.
Because a criminal prosecutor in (whatever county), Texas, would have to review the “facts of the case” and whatever evidence was available (physician exam, DNA, social media, etc) and determine if it’s worth his/her time & taxpayer’s money (reasonable expectation of conviction) to prosecute DW. Rules of evidence in a civil action are much less strenuous than in a criminal case so plaintiff is favored. Also Buzbee wants a jury trial so he can appeal to the emotions of the jurors and he would push for at least 50% female representation. He knows a judge without a jury present would probably strike most of what he presents.
Let’s also understand that plaintiffs’ attorneys take these cases on contingency and generally get 40-50% of the settlement amount if they win. Last but not least - Buzbee’s intent is to settle this case for the payout BEFORE it goes to trial. Most plaintiffs attorneys would prefer this I think. Preparing for a trial is expensive & time consuming.
When all said & done, the law isn’t about the truth, it’s about what you can get people to believe.
