He's like a kid, not going to die, not going to need a hospital bed.
BUT.....say his dad is like minded. He gives it to dad. Dad takes up a hospital bed. Say his kids get it, they go to school, and some teacher, proudly unvaxxed, gets it, and does take up a hospital bed. All fine. UNTIL, there are no hospital beds left. Then the guy in a car wreck, welding accident, heart attack, whatever needs an ICU and guess what? SOL. So yeah, your individual freedom not to get a vaccine is absolutely fine if you live in a bubble. But when your unvaccinated butt takes up an ICU bed, 3 ICU nurses, a vent, and resources, there comes a point that kills OTHER PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN HAVE COVID.
Last year's numbers are right around 130,000. Take excess deaths, subtract covid deaths, and there's still a large difference. Any guesses who those people are? And here you are a doctor in Lexington, SC, Boise, Idaho, or Jacksonville, FL. You have a 16yo kid, just got his license, and he's in a horrible wreck. He is rushed to emergency surgery (if you can find a doc and an anesthesiologist) and he then needs an ICU bed. Well, you're full. Then the hospital has to decide to pull staff and doctors away from covid cases (they die) to save the innocent people who were hurt in a car wreck? Who dies? Who gets the least care? When Desantis, and others like him say vaccines are a personal choice, and wearing a mask is a personal choice, and it has no impact on others, he's wrong. And he knows that. You have to have a pretty myopic view of the world to deny it.
