Don't kid yourself! Bama's defense is great.

I read all the talk on Tigerboard about Bama's defensive stats being due to poor QB's and offenses in the SEC. I wish I could embrace that talk as being indicative of what will happen tonight but I can't. We face a huge challenge running and throwing against their defense. They do not have a weakness on defense (great front four that can play the run and bring pressure; quick, outstanding linebackers; and a very good secondary). They will be able to consistently run a cover 2 with nickle and dime coverage. I expect they will consistently have seven defending the pass. Can't see our running game having much success. DW4 can be effective throwing with our great receivers if he gets time, but that is a big "if." Hope we can limit Tim Williams, Jonathan Allen, and occasionally Reuben Foster getting to DW4. They will have added motivation due to our offensive success against them last year and due to what they perceive as "disrespect" with the many sportswriters that are picking us. They are a better and faster defensive team than last year. Hope I am wrong...I have to live with the Bama fans all year. Go Tigers!!

is the best in college football. And from what I saw against 0-hio State, we look good. Really, really good.
We win because we have Watson, it's really that simple.
If I had to pick one college QB to play against the bammers, it's Watson.

If DW4 can shred their secondary, Bama will be in a world of hurt. They can't score enough to keep up, and they do not have the quick strike offense like CLEMSON has.

Three things for our offense to do to win... 1. PLAY FAST.
2 Play fast.
3. Play faster!!!
Play fast for four quarters!!
Don't waste a down running up the middle

You're right - we're going to have to keep them........

"surprised" with what we do - can't just expect to pound the run up the middle - and definitely have to keep them away from DW if we're to have a chance.
I think our defense can hold down their offense successfully but we've got to mix it up offensively ourselves.

You really think they can stuff our run game with 4?
Hahahahahahahaha!
If we see much cover 2, both Gallman and Deshaun have big games running and the jet sweep will be gold.

They will be in cover two 90% of the time. They've stopped the run with only four all year. And before you say they haven't faced a RB like Gallman all year, I will remind you of Fornette. THEY DON'T HAVE TO STACK THE BOX AND WILL NOT DO IT!

Won't happen. We'll get 7 in the box and man coverage.

'Bama's defense is very good
Jan 9, 2017, 2:40 PM

There is no doubt that they are good. Of course, before the game last year we heard that . . . a. 'Bama's lime play was dominant and Clemson could not stay on the same field with them. b. The 2016 'Bama defense was perhaps the best defense in the HISTORY of college football
After the game, we didn't hear too much about those observations.
However, that was last year. It is possible that their defense is even better this year. They are not as big but are thought to be quicker. Certainly, their defense is better than ours. But, our defense doesn't play their defense. I think that it will be a lower scoring game tonight, but I doubt if they will shut us down. We will spread the field and make some completions and get enough yards on the ground to keep them honest.
The big question is what can they get against our defense. If we can disrupt them at the line of scrimmage, I think that we can score enough points to win. If we can't control their running attack, then we will be in trouble. I think that we can win this, but it is up to Coach V and our defense.

Bama defense has allowed 3 rushing touchdowns this whole season. Probably means nothing....the SEC was down in 2016.

As good as our defense is we've given up almost twice as many TDs as Bama. That is impressive, but like another poster brought up, our defense doesn't play their defense. I like our advantage in the matchup of our defense against their offense more than their defense against our offense, if there is one at all.

Can't really use those stats. Since the Pitt game, the defense has gelled, and if you look at it Clemson has played some really good offenses. FSU, Louisville, VT, Ohio State. Bama's defense was the iron curtain last year, and Clemson put up 40 WITHOUT Williams and Cain. I see a 17-14 Clemson victory. JMHO.

Bama D last year was the best ever per the Bama fans, and would win by at least 2 TDs. Go look at the Ole Miss game vs Bama. Ole Miss could run the ball; and the Ole Miss receivers won every 50-50 ball (against that "greatest ever" Bama D. They put up 43 points on this great Bama D, w only one TD by the Ole Miss D. Bama won b/c of a punt return for TD and an interception for a TD by a Bama lineman. Compare VaTech win over Arky against the Bama win over Arky. Bama D players are not "all-world;" they just haven't played a really good offense yet.

There's a difference between saying their D is bad and...

pointing out the perverse stats that follow Bama's defense. Have you even watched the post season games with SEC teams in them? I'd suggest their defense maybe as just as good as ours. I haven't seen them line up against as offense like Clemson's this season and neither has anyone else.
Imo, their defense is the only reason they made it. Bama's offense only score enough to win 6 of their games this year. Without the scores from Bama's defense, it is reported that Bama would be 6-8 on the season. So yeah, their D has not only kept them in games but won most games for them.
Considering that stat, how would ESPiN be able to push Bama as the end all to end all this season? Answer!
