Does anybody know specifically how collectives work??

So.. let's say CU's 2023 class turns out to be 25 kids. In addition to a tuition waiver, and funding for housing, food, medical care, training, travel, apparel, etc... does each kid negotiate with the school on how much his "NIL" amount will be? Are there any conditions or is the kid in complete control and simply shops himself to the highest bidder? Is it a lump sum payment up front? Deferred? Taxable?
