Doak Campbell Capacity

So, I've read that Doak's current capacity in the middle of renovations is around 55k. Ok, but what I didn't know until just now is that apparently, even when the updates are done, it's supposed to be around 68k or so permanently. Is that right? Is that still the plan? What I read made it seem like that was the initial tentative plan, but I wasn't sure if that was official or speculative.
That's weird. I did read that they have far smaller base of alumni that live within a couple hundred mile radius than do most bit college football programs, but dang, permanently reducing to below 70k is a bit shocking.

What was he reading that day? I wonder. I also wonder about what he taught.

If they want to get in the SEC, reducing the number of seats may hurt them

I'm surprised as well because they would typically draw more than that to an average game. Stadium renovations these days are done so the major donor gets more amenities though.

Interesting link. They average 78K in 2023....

Seems strange for a power program like FSU, which is marketing itself to the Power 2 conferences, to shave 11K off their capacity. You can do things to enhance stadium experience without kicking over 10,000 people out of the game.
I think they're making a mistake to lower the capacity "that" much. They might want to consider keeping it at least around 75-76K.

Wondering where we fit on that spectrum? I would take a guess and say only 40% that go to our games are alums... if that. Would think that'd be the same as FSU’s.
But I think the days of 100k stadiums are over. Look at the pros, most are in the 70s range.

Their thinking is to reduce but add luxury items for a better game day experience since many people opt to watch on TV.

People want to fit comfortably in their seat. At the prices of attending a game nowadays you will find a move away from overstuffed stadiums. The revenue is in profit margin per seat. Clemson added Masters Club for just this reason. Today when you can’t afford the ticket prices you watch the game on a large tv screen.

Yeah, everyone is going for adding premium seats/boxes. Tennessee took out around 5,000 seats for the expensive ritzy boxes. We'll still see 102,000 at the game but no more of 109,000 plus. That was with standing room.

I think that may be the way of the future. With these tv contracts floating around and fan experience being more concentrated on smaller capacity with better stadium amenities is how some stadiums will be going.
