I think it was a Chick-fil-A or Peach Bowl game and Andre Ellington reached for the end zone, fumbled and it went back 100 yards......I think.

Georgia game in '77 maybe.. Outgained Georgia in the first

half about 260 to 50..but were down 7-0 I think. We kept fumbling and they ran a fumble or pick back from the goal line to about our 2 or 3...
GT game with Charlie WHitehurst ended with the worst final 6 minutes of a game in Clemson history. It was a cluster and a half.
Pittsburgh game in '15 or was it '16... Anyway, holding call on a DB that the replay showed our DB never got within in touching distance of the receiver. Bouleware gets a personal foul for as the ref told Dabo he tackled him TOO HARD. DW inexpicably throws a pick from the 6 yard line when we were about to wrap up the game.
North Carolina game in Chapel Hill when Nuk was a freshman. Mcdaniel gets a pick on a ball that was overthrown by 10 yards and they call interference on our DB on the receiver. MCDaniel had run it back to the 4 yarldine. NC's drive that eventually won the game was aided by 3 third down penalties that converted for them after we had stopped them. ALL WERE BOGUS. Especially one on I think Gaines ADAMS for being off sides when he sacked the QB. I SWEAR IT WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE.
I have more ...but I don't want to hog the limelight.

called time with 10 seconds left, game was tied, for Donald Igwebuike to attempt a 61 yard field goal. It was short, so on the next play, UGA made a 59 yarder to win. If Danny would've let a few more seconds run off, before calling time, it would have ended in a tie!

The math doesn’t add up. If we attempted a 61 yard FG, the ball would be on Georgia’s 44 yard line. If Georgia then attempted a field goal from the same spot, it would be a 73 yard attempt.
I remember in 1984 we kicked a FG with 2 minutes left to tie, but then Butler kicked a 60 yarder with 11 seconds left to win.
In 1983 we attempted a 68 yarder with 7 seconds left and didn’t make it, and on the next play Georgia attempted a 66 yarder and missed. Game ended in a tie.

I remember the game you are talking about. It was 1983 and it ended a tie.
We attempted the field goal from close to mid field and thought time would run out. We were short and there was a second or two left on the clock and UGA came out and attempted...from close to mid field.
They were short as well. The game ended in a tie.

Spud, I think you are talking about the Clemson - UGA game in 1980 when UGA won the NC.
We were losing at halftime and UGA actually had NEGATIVE offensive yards. They had an interception and a punt return (one for a TD and the other tackled inside the 5 yard line) which lead to their only scores at the half. It was either 14-7 or maybe 14-10 UGA at the half.
UGA ended up winning by a score of 20-16. We dominated everywhere but the scoreboard.
Bubba Brown, after the Clemson NC in 1981 stated that seeing UGA win it all the season before, knowing how we could have beaten them, made them realize they weren't far from being where we needed to be.

but trust me, it happens everywhere pretty much every week.
It does seem to happen to us a bit more against GT for some reason.

Don't remember the kicker or the game but the half ended with our guy driving a FG perfectly down the middle as time expired. When we came back out for the second half. the score hadn't been put on the board. Ref said the kick was too high to be good .
Boston College game (with Flutie Think) - running back fumbles the ball inside our 5 yard line, the ball was clearly moving forward after leaving his hands and hitting the ground before reaching the goal line and Terry Kinard recovered it in the end zone for a touchback. Refs said the guy crossed the goal line before fumbling and the result was the winning score.

I have to say, some of the craziest plays I've ever seen in college football are in the SEC. They are just ripe for insane plays there, especially to end games.
However, Clemson-GT does seem to be a hotbed for nutso plays. There was the time Paul Johnson (illegally) snuck a receiver downfield on a fake punt...the year we muffed a punt with 30-odd seconds left and they scored a TD to beat us...the year they missed an easy goal as time expired to lose the game (that was 1991, right after they won the national championship and easily one of the most exciting home games I've attended).

elite programs.
We haven't been particularly good at closing out close games for this entire run under Dabo. Our offense, when given the opportunity to close out a game by gaining one 1st down typically goes run-run-run-punt and puts it on the defense. And Dabo has made his fair share of questionable decisions late in close games that have added to the drama (2016 Auburn being a prime example).
