Do Texas and Oklahoma become more like

Nov 28, 2021, 6:04 PM

Missouri and South Carolina than like Alabama and Georgia in the SEC? They will be playing games away from their recruiting base. Texas is already down and Oklahoma may be headed that way.

Probably more like Arky and TAMU

One tier above the programs you mentioned, but not in the top tier. I think they’ll be below TAMU, but above Arky. Comparable to where Auburn is.

Probably not that low, but more like Miss St and Arkansas.

They will suddenly play great defense, that is an SEC given.

That's how all the teams beating up on each other stay ranked week after week.

U of TX will rise back up to top tier in college football again.

Texas has the best HS football programs in the country, lots and lots of HS programs (because Texas has a big population), and a tremendous brand name with tremendous support throughout TX.

If U of TX stops screwing up with their coaching hires -and- if whatever mental illnesses can be cured or purged from U of TX's college & athletic department leadership, then U of TX stands to benefit from the hype that the SEC has to offer vs. Big 12.

Finally with regard to U of TX, being able to renew the rivalry with aTm will restore some of the lost buzz, and they will keep their other rivalry with U of OK.

U of OK, on the other hand, will not fare so well. U of OK loses their in-state rivalry with OK State, and simply because the state of Oklahoma is so small compared to Texas, they will become lost in the large SEC shuffle.

One has to wonder if the whole SEC thingy motivated L.Riley to get the heck out of Dodge.

^^^This^^^^ Riley is a sly but smart fox - I think Riley has done the analytics and knows that the OU to SEC move, while good for University revenue, is bad for OU football. To be hired by USC this quickly tells me he has been in contact with them since (or before) they officially fired Helton. OU Football will end up being an average to slightly above average team in the SEC. The PAC 12 is not very competitive right now and with a large talent pool to recruit from in California - Riley has an opportunity to have a good run in the PAC 12 relatively quickly...

They'll be mid-pack performers for years. Of the two, UT could get better if they could sort out their coaching. Everything else is in place and the state has tons of talent.
