is 20 years old.
He is expected by us spoiled fans to just line up and be the next DW or TL with no step back.
Who can do that?

How many of us at 20 or 50 could face this and keep a clear mind:

DJ has incredible talent. I remain a fan of DJ.
Maybe he needs more experience? Maybe he is a bust?

Rattler was the #1 Heisman pick and is now on the bench. Is he done -- not by a long way.
Pickett is picked to kick our ### this week because he has learned over many games/years.

DJ is DJ. The plan must be to toss him or to shape plays to his talents (which are off the chart).

I believe the position of Clemson QB is in great hands.

I think it’s in his head. He’s drinking from a firehose this year and it’s more than he has been able to cover up. The run game has been good to bail him out and our receivers need to step up. No doubt, DJ is a work in progress, but who hasn’t struggled whether in life, work or on the field? Not worth burning all your Clemson chit. Just chill the F out and enjoy the ride…On the edge of your couch crying out why, like me.

^ This - the game is coming at him to fast and to much and without a breakout thread (say a ETN) the opposing DC can really ratchet down on his processing slowness/weakness. The WR issues isn't helping.

However, you are seeing him get better, now if he can get his touch on the ball BACK, he will be in a lot better shape.

$$ is related to on field play. I surely am not a fan of NIl, but I don't believe that is why DJ is not DW or TL. I believe he is on that level, just needs more time.

I’m ok with him making money off of his name and likeness. Point is we all know the pressure of these deals is hurting him bc he has an expectation to perform not only by the staff but by “sponsors” now. I assure you there was a lot of incentives left on the table as a result of the poor start. That would beat on any of us. Yes fans expect more when player are compensated. That the way the world work. My employer and the general public have an expectation that I perform at my job bc my job is directly tied to the public. If not I need replaced. I’m rooting for DJ but just like the game has changed for players… it has changed expectations for fans. Fans are going to be less giving to a player struggling. That mindset from fans of the struggling college student is gone. You don’t have to like it. Nor do I care if you do

Look, DJ was scouted as a 5-star. That meant something in 2019 when he was recruited to Clemson. His appearances in 2020 were reasonable though questionable showings. Too many people overlooked some real problems in those two games. Problems which we clearly have seen in 5 of the 6 games this season. Go back and look at those games and the incompletes thrown by DJ and the lack of his own running the ball. Two very telling issues everyone has seen.

Simply stated, DJ is not a great passer or even a dual threat to anything but a Sunday school class. This is why play calling really sux in game... Elliott and Dabo have attempted to cover over the very glaring problem that DJ hasn't overcome by making things vanilla.

And anyone who said DJ was going to be another DW or TL? He's not even close to their actual skill level when actually looking at his full stats. He can't read defenses well, can't scan the field fast enough to go fleet foot to gain good yardage. Sure he did 'better' vs a very bad 'Cuse, but his level of improvement isn't what I'd call acceptable enough to not consider the other QB recruits as alternate options. If there's problems with TP or the others, Dabo should be clear about it, but for all the times Dabo says a player has to earn a position we know plenty of players have also conversely lost positions because they weren't playing up to snuff.

DJ isn't a bad person, he's not a bad QB, but he's not a very good QB for a supposed 5 star. Again, remember that's what he's recruited as being, and if he's looking more like a 3.5 star, then let the other QBs get their shots, because this offense isn't scoring well with DJ in the pocket. I'd rather see one of those other QBs in there throwing an interception if it means the offense is otherwise scoring 30pts! That's worth it if the team gets steam up!

We heard that this season. He's scared of injury or some such BS after the UGA game. What irks me is that if Dabo & Co. are great at recruiting talent then giving TP and others a shot is a no-brainer. So either D&Co been lying about talent level or been lying about something.

No way in your mind can you say that. he has to be performing at the lowest 10% of big time College QBs. he's not even a freshman. he played to full games last year, had another fall practice and such. This is uncharted waters for any D1 school.

He's 90th in passing yards

He's 110th in passing TD's

He's 104th in QB rating at 41.5.

At this point he's a bust.

Couple that with the Brilliant Tony Elliott's Offense that's ...

Clemson in 123rd in scoring out of 130 teams .

Clemson is 86th in rushing out of 130 teams.

Clemson is 122nd in yards per game out of 130 teams.

Clemson is 113th in passing yards out of 130 teams .

In scoring per quarter:
1st Quarter: 91st
2nd Quarter: 114th
3rd Quarter : 129th...dead last
4th Quarter: 104th.

Elliott is a bust as well

Those are the facts and stating them don't make you a band wagon fan or any other adjective that you can use .

The adults who have posted on this thread provide all of the context that you need to help you overcome your ignorance on this topic. Do yourself a favor and re-read this entire thread. I'd like to remind you that of those two NC, TE was 50% of the play calling at best. And yet that team up couldn't win against LSU nor last year vs Ohio State where the offense in both games looked so anemic despite having TL as QB.

Lets be brutal here... When Morris left and Dabo swapped in the Scott & Elliott team they had a lot of good talent to work with and in the pipeline. That's helps make you look far better. But lets not kid ourselves, the only coordinator worth his salary is Brent Venebles who delivers year in year out. If you were grading OC vs DC, Venebles is an A+ and Elliot at best is C maybe C-. The sign of a good coordinator is the ability to gel your team during games after having assured all the assistant coaches have worked the players into the conditioning required by the coordinators plans for games.

TE and Dabo together are apparently doing the play calling likely because Elliott is simply over his head at this point and Dabo thinks he can act like this is 2011. But really Clemson needs to hire in a serious OC to get the program squared back out of the vanilla factory that exists there right now. The gameplay of 3,4,5 years ago is stale, and an OC needs to re-scheme the offense on the fly to react to defenses who've had the playbook open to them all these years. This is how LSU and OSU nailed Clemson offense and defense to the wall in those huge games, making the Tigers look like they had no business showing up.

It's time to put 'elite' back into the offense and get the 'Elliott' out of there.

I for one do not believe DJ is the next DeShaun , or Trevor but more Kelly Bryant, a good quarterback who can lead a team to multiple wins, but not necessarily National Championships. But I am having a bigger problem with a coaching staff that continues to treat him as such. In 6 games I have seen no improvement in his game, and I am by no means an expert on quarterbacks. He still takes the same 2 step back up out of the shotgun, then steps up into a collapsing pocket to throw the ball, he hesitates to run like Trevor did, he overthrows his receivers on some routes, under throws on others. I also think he does not have complete knowledge/faith in the playbook ( of course neither does TE IMO) ,but these again are just my opinions, not stated facts.
But when asked earlier this by a reporter why he has not been benched even once, our offensive coordinator can only say that "He is improving week by week but we don't want to disrupt his rhythm" ?REALLY!
Please, Tony, tell us what rhythm you are referring to.?

I appreciate your optimism, but I would like to be clear with a few things. First, I'm sure DJ is a good kid. He seems like he comes from a good family, and I became I massive fan of him when he refused to compete in the Elite 11 in favor of practicing with his high school team so that he could win the national title. After last year, I was convinced he was a better passer than TL (who got worse as a passer after his freshman year) and would continue this tradition. I was a true believer, and hoped, that if our line play removed, we'd have a chance this year given loss of talent at Bama and Ohio State.

But I do think we have to face facts. And here are some objective truths. There are 105 QBs with enough passes to qualify for statistics (triple option QBs typically don't appear). Of those, DJ is:

88th in passing accuracy,
85th in passing yards,
101st in yards per attempt,
98th in passing touchdowns,
86th in passing attempts per pick,
100th in passer rating.

He is in the bottom 20 in the country in every single passing statistic. He is in the bottom 5 in the two most important stats for a QB. This is with all bluechip receivers and 8 out of 10 linemen on the two deep are bluechip. All but one of the SEC QBs have better stats than him (and all ACC QBs). Is there any reason Connor Bazelak should be blowing him away statistically?

You say he just needs more time. He is a sophomore who has 8 starts under his belt, plus cleanup duty in other games last year. There are currently 31 Quarterbacks who are freshmen or sophomores ranked higher than him statistically, 19 of which have less games started. That includes the young QBs at what should be our biggest rivals. College football is not what it once was, where they were students first, athletes second, and got 4 years of eligibility. They are now paid athletes, with very little academic requirements, who are just waiting for the second the NFL will take them.

I think everyone knows our offense is really bad. But I don't think they understand just how bad. It's the worst offense Clemson has had statistically since 1978. That comes at the hands of the worst Clemson passing performance in a very long time. Can you guess win? Kelly Bryant was far better statistically. So was Cole Stoudt. Other better QB performances statistically were Kyle Parker, Cullen Harper, Will Proctor, and Will Simmons. This year, DJ is the worst passer for Clemson since Rodney Williams in 1987.

The last QB with statistics almost as bad as DJ Uiagalelei was: Brandon Streeter. I find it somewhat interesting that DJ entered Clemson as a unanimous 5 Star prospect and the high school national champion. In his first year, he started two games and broke numerous records, even if he didn't have full control of the offense. Then, in his second, he's one of the worst QBs in the country, and that was after spending a year learning from the man that was Clemson's worst QB in the last 30 years. Kind of interesting.

TLDR: I don't think Clemson fans are demanding DJ be a top 5 QB right now and compete with DW and TL. But I don't think it's spoiled to ask a 7 figure, 5 Star QB to at least be as good as Kyle Parker.

Streeter or Rodney Williams. Just move the ball. If he's getting the ball out on time and is hitting WR hands and they're just dropping passes then that will become evident that its not DJ's fault. Trevor is losing games in the NFL and his first two games were on him for the most part with bad throws. But since then he's been hitting guys in teh hands but they're just dropping the ball and are not good. That blame has gradually passed from him to his team.

The biggest thing i'd love to see DJ do is throw on time. Get the ball out for 4 yards, 5 yards, 3 yards, 8 yards and then take a shot. But get that rhythm that sustains drives. The double clutching and waiting and scrambling is what kills our offense. It means these routes or these plays are designed to be long and drawn out. Every once in a while is fine. But if you'll go back and watch good offenses..the ball is out in 2-3 seconds. DJ is using like 4-5 to get it out. That ain't and hasn't been working. It would be nice if Elliot would revise his gameplan to have DJ get some rhythm in this game. To sustain drives.

I dont' expect DJ to be perfect. But at some point we gotta get on track.. right? This team has alot of good players that need to take over. Yes Ngata is out but where is LAdson? Somebody wake him up!

Love DJ. Love Big Dave. 1st class. Now the but. DJ, Dabo and T.E. together have created one of the worst O's in the country -- and one of the worst all-time college O's in the passing era. So it's a little hyperbolic and premature to size DJU for the College Hall of Fame.

IMHO DJ is in his last year at Clemson. I expect he will be in California or elsewhere with his brother in 2022. And if he chooses to return, I project like many others that C. Klubnick will win the job in 4-5 games. No hard feelings to DJ fans. Time will tell.
