He did start. He essentially replaced the second defensive tackle with Clemson coming out in a 3-man front.

I've learned not to question BV, but a 3 man front when Syracuse's offense is centered around a great running back is not what I expected.
Again, BV will be playing chess when everyone else is playing checkers, but I would have thought for sure we'd would have loaded the box to stop the run out of the gate, as their QB couldn't hit the broad side of a barn....especially when under pressure.

A four Three and a Three Four still add up to seven in the box. Plus it gives him an extra weeks practice if he wants to run a three three against Pitt.

AFDAWG nailed it. Our team and coaching staff is loaded with ex team members as coaches and scholarship favor players. Tyler and Jake Venables and Nola Turner would not sniff the field on any top 10 team more less get a scholarship offer.

AFDOG, Let me get this straight, a head coach and staff that has been to 6 CFB playoffs and won two nattys doesn't know how to coach. And dosn,t know how to pick players? I guess some coach might not pick Justin Fields to play first string QB!

Look…I know where you are coming from and good for him making the best of his opportunity. I have no beef with the players. My beef is with the coaches…there’s no reason that kid should be in our 3 deep if we are recruiting/developing like we should be. And yes, sometimes a Player like Renfrow comes along…but that’s rare…like once every few years maybe.

He ran a 4.5 laser timed 40 in high school. He's a little under sized for the position but that's D1 speed. You probably said the same thing about Adam Humphries and Hunter Renfrow.
