Data across all of P5 football…
Dec 8, 2021, 10:34 AM

Someone should look at the total number of players from P5 schools that entered the portal in a given year, then determine how many of them made a significant impact on their new team…
I’d like to see that percentage…

this is the internet. just make up a number to meet your agenda and stick with it. People with the same agenda will just keep using the same number. NO1 will ever put forth the effort to disagree.

I would also love to see a comparison between the percentage of players who made a significant impact and the percentage of players who got lost in the portal and never found another place to play.

Out of how many who actually transfered?

transferred? A lot of guys transfer down for PT from P5 schools and may have an impact there as well. You look at those who have transfered recently from here, only Melusi had a real impact at a P5 school. Brice did at a lower level.

Well I think the one's who go to school with great coaches schemes are going to be more likely to be successful. Those who are good players are also going to be more likely to be pursued by great coaches and schools. I think looking at this in that regard is a flawed way of looking at it because a school like Clemson with our coaching staff would easily get the best of the best players to make immediate impacts as have the top programs have already done.

will use it to have a better understanding of the portal .. others will ignore it and just stick with the JOE BURROW !!!!
looking at their ratings.. 25 kids had ratings of 0.89 or higher.. ALL Of them found homes.
5 of those are in the CFP , 3 at UGa and 2 at Bama..
looking at these numbers from last year.. if you have a rating of 0.86 or higher you are likely to find a home.

Just like you say people will stick with "JOE BURROW".......

you're just sticking with UGA and Bama.
you can't look at just the superstars..........I agree with that. You have to look at the IMPACT transfers made at their selected schools and "ratio" that to what those schools "expectations" are.
Clemson (as it stands right now) is at the "level" of UGA, Ohio State, Bama, etc........if Clemson/Dabo put true effort into the portal they could get the 2-4 players from the portal that could be a Jameson Williams (who btw was "4th WR" at Ohio State, not too shabby for a guy that would get limited PT)...............you're selling Clemson and Dabo short if you think that they wouldn't/couldn't sell "top notch" transfers just like they sell top notch recruits.
secondly, going back to the ratio the impact on expectations of the team. Michigan State had like 6+ transfers that made SIGNIFICANT impacts for them. One was a measly ole RB from Wake Forest............Did MSU make the playoffs?? nope, but they did a helluva lot better b/c of their transfers than they were going to without them.
I think Dabo could/would "thrive" in the portal each year with 2-4 players depending on numbers needs.............he just needs to bite the bullet and do it.

i singled out UGa and Bma because

they are the only 2 in the CFP which is what matters by "impact".
I should have made a comment that most of the other 20 went to teams that didn't sniff the CFP so did they really have an "impact"? I don't know, it gets really deep at that point andI'm not willing to put forth that kinda effort for free.
The other piece that is missing is how the process works. IF it works the way the NCAA intended, you essentially start the recruitment process all over, then Dabo has a shot.
If it works the way that is rumored. no way .

"significant impact" is relative depending on the team......
Dec 8, 2021, 10:48 AM
|
|
just an example, Baylor had a center transfer from Miami (ohio) this year that started all year. Quantifying "significant impact" would involve asking the coaching staff from the school in question to give feedback. Just b/c not ALL players aren't Joe Burrow or Fields or Murray or Williams or "name your superstar" does not mean that the REST of the players sucked and didn't impact their team in a significant way............Heck Chase Brice made a significant impact in 2018 for our team, but nobody outside our fanbase will know/remember that.
the use of the transfer portal is making the numbers and talent work............it's not a dependency deal...........that's what people like YOU don't understand.

and don't say b/c Dabo's not a fan of it..............b/c i'm not either, but I realize it's a must now in this CFB era for Clemson to "stay at the top"

Also be aware of the number who enter the portal - who then transfer - but went from scholarship to walk on.
