Swinney says good to get a win on the road but made it hard on themselves.

He says the guys are playing hard, but frustrating to see them miss opportunities. Way too many mistakes. But it's all about winning and able to get a win on the road.

Lots of missed blocks. Even outside at WR. Not a lot of consistency there. The negative yards was biggest frustrations, along with drops and missed plays.

He says he watched Pitt and VT. They are a good football team. Their QB is "special" and very efficient at keeping them out of trouble. He scrambles effectively. Good WRs. They are Top 10 nationally in total offense and pass offense and scoring offense

WR play is incredibly frustrating

Ouch, WR play has been lacking but a lot of times they looked surprised when DJ actually hits them. Wonder if anyone on the team gets annoyed that it’s everyone besides DJ? Also not saying it’s all on DJ, but most of the time the only thing we hear is how great he is ???????????????

WR is our biggest problem- that playcalling and OL all are bigger problems than QB.

Oct 17, 2021, 6:26 PM

RB is the only position we should feel good about.

On OL issues, Swinney says they are missing a lot of guys he thought would help this season, like Williams, Johnson, Pennington, etc.

QB DJ Uiagalelei graded out a winner. Missed two throws. Managed the game well. Ran the ball effectively. Got them in the right calls. Made some beautiful throws, like the throw to Collins, to Ngata, to Ross over the middle of the field. Two games in a row has taken a step forward.

Offense is closer to being good than people on the outside think, just have to get 11 guys together.

badge-seniorwriter.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disagree with this - we don’t ha e the WRs in our 2

Oct 17, 2021, 6:30 PM

Deep to say e the problems there. Keep hoping we do have enough answers in OL to get consistent and better as the season moves forward. Injuries have added chemistry issues on top of the youth and inexperience

Most teams in the Country would love to have Ngata, Ross,

Oct 17, 2021, 6:55 PM

and Ajou as their WRs.

All 3 would start for almost any team in the ACC.***

WR Ajou Ajou did ok, but has to play better without the ball. His first play never blocked the corner and it led to a loss.

What is the WR coach doing?***

Coaching at the same level as our other offensive coaches.

Legacy coach

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Im sure he's telling him not to block,

Oct 17, 2021, 8:22 PM [ in reply to What is the WR coach doing?*** ]

right? Grisham was a good blocker. He knows what it takes. Might want to look at Ajou on this one. And quite possibly the reason we have not seen Ajou much until the attrition at WR occurred

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No. That’s ridiculous.

Oct 17, 2021, 8:28 PM

Of course he’s not telling him not to block.
But I’d say the standard is quite a bit higher than that, and the coach is ultimately responsible.

We can talk about attrition. But Ajou is on the roster as a WR and I assume he practices with the WRs.

Heck, you can throw me out there on the field - and if I know my job is to block the guy, I’m gonna at least try to block him. Not saying I’d be good, but I’d sure as hell at least get in front of the guy.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Coach Swinney needs to have a sit down with Coach Grisham***
