Comparing OSU/BAMA etc to Clemson when it comes to landing

RBs is apples/oranges. RBs get more carries at these schools at every level most years than RBs at Clemson.
2018 ETN 204 Feaster 78 Choice 77
Damien Harris 150 Jacobs 120 Harris 117
Dobbins 230 Weber 172
2019 ETN 207 Lyn J 104
Harris 209 Robinson 96
Dobbins 301 Teague 135
2020 (12 games) ETN 168 Lyn J 42
(13 games) Harris 251 Robinson 91
(8 games) Sermon 116 Teague 104
2021 Shipley 149 Pace 104 Mafah 68
Robinson 271 Sanders 72
Henderson 183 Williams 71
2022 Shipley 193 Mafah 91
Gibbs 136 McClellan 105
Williams 125 Henderson 107 Hayden 102
More often than not the starter at Clemson is getting less touches than the starter at other schools. Same with 2nd stringer most years. A back up at Bama/OSU has better odds of getting more touches.

#### straight. Far dere #####.
On another front, why is all the vitriol aimed at CJ? I get he's the backs coach, but the primary responsibility of a backs coach is to help the current players develop and improve their play. On that front, CJ seems to be doing great. Shipley was always going to be a good one, but he's definitely developed to be even better. He'll never be ETN (but ETN is literally the best running back in ACC history), but he's an elite back. Mafah is arguably even better as a pure running back. Pace is transferring, but he got much better since arriving on campus and he would have been a fine starter on par with Gallman if we didn't have better in front of him. Domonique had a really tough route to get to Clemson, but I'm not stressed about him as a backup. Quadzilla has really put on good muscle and has a ton of heart.
That's CJ's main job, and I see no reason he's not doing well at it. Yes, we use our position coaches as recruiters as well, but for key positions like QB/RB, it also falls on the head coach and coordinators. It's a group effort. Feaster was recruited by Scott. Gallman was Dabo. Bellamy was Brad. Mafah was recruited by Conn. Bowman was a bit of everyone, but the lead was Jeff Scott. Hell, CJ himself was recruited by Dabo. Our only starting back in the last 15 years that was recruited by a running backs coach was Shipley, but that was technically Elliott after he left that post and became coordinator. Someone blaming CJ for our not signing an elite back since Shipley/Mafah has no idea what they're talking about.

Thanks for putting the stats together. Very telling with proof. I'm sure these numbers are used against us.
Not sure what most expect. Bama is in a class recruiting by itself. Uga found a way but they've historically been known as a running team.
Personally, I think we've done well over the Dabo years. Gallman, etn, cj, now Shipley and mafah.

Of the RBs during our elite run, Shipley is the only 5*

that we landed. We don't need 5* running backs in our current scheme. a 3 or 4* with decent speed and toughness, coached up to pass block, run hard and catch out of the backfield is all we need to keep defenses honest and let our usually dominant QBs do their job.
Now whether or not the current scheme can continue to be effective is still up for debate and jury is still out pending next season with Cade at the helm.

Totally agree. Not sure what warranties the TD but I guess it's their opinion that Clemson should have 5* recruits at every position, every cycle. As with etn, we've done well finding the right fit. Thanks again.

Thanks for posting. I am sure this is being used against us on the recruiting trail. Nevertheless, it is disconcerting that we have not been able to sign a single RB target the last 2 recruiting periods and had to fall back to non power 5 guys. Forget getting 4-5 star guys. How about a 3 star guy with offers from someone besides Mars Hill?

Are you quoting number of runs or number of touches ? Cause the NFL is looking for backs who can catch.

This is runs. But we also don’t throw to the back any more than these teams do either.
