Oct 15, 2021, 12:32 PM

Where is the best place to tailgate in Syracuse? First time making the trip.

Syracuse does tailgating a bit differently...

Tailgating spots are pretty much on a first some first serve basis. There really aren't a bunch of reserved spaces.

They do have parking maps on the Athletic website that shows the permit parking lots as well as the non permit day game lots which includes Skytop.

The Syracuse tailgating scene is a lot of small tailgates spread throughout the campus. This is due to the Carrier Dome being built in the middle of a cramped campus with little close by parking. Visiting fans can find tailgating/parking options in the University area but it will be mostly by private vendors along with traditional cash lots.

If you get lucky, you may find someone selling a parking pass for one of the permit lots. The school says the passes aren't transferable but it isn’t enforced.

The University recommends visitors without passes park at Skytop. It is located about 1.5 miles south of main campus. If you want a traditional grassy lot this is the place. Shuttle buses are available and free and run continuously two hours before football games. Tailgating out at Skytop is pretty good with grassy areas to spread out. It is usually the most popular area for visiting fans to go to.

Several pay to park lots (MLK Magnet School Parking, Adams Street Cash Lot, I-81 underpass, and the Harrison Street Cash Lot. Some sketchy areas on this list and bathrooms are a few blocks away. Syracuse does have a couple of parking garages for game day parking without a permit (University Ave Garage and Booth Garage). We parked there a few years ago and I believe the cost was in the $25 range. Just be sure to move your car before the lot closes which is 2 hours after the game ends.
There are a few other parking garages in the area. The one near the hospital on Irving Avenue and Waverly Ave is next to the bars and restaurants of Marshall St. The Sheraton Hotel garage also allows game day parking.

Hope that helps

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

The Clemson NYC club normally has a tailgate but any tailgating is in parking lots for the most part
