Clemson is no longer elite yet paying coaches an elite salary.

It’s hard to imagine anyone arguing otherwise who has been watching this slow decline.
It’s finally nice to see the pumpers who were in denial pumping the brakes a bit.
My guess is that those frogs in the slowly boiling water are beginning to feel the heat.
The question now is what happens next. Dabo has a 60M buyout and we are fighting the ACC at the same time. All when we need to save dollars to get the best talent.
This is definitely a cross roads.

......... especially Pitt.. with us up in that place.
Coaches and recruiters need to get really serious about this program. They are a little too laxed and complacent about what needs to be done to maintain our standards.
If they don't want to pay players..or use the portal.....fine. Then I suggest they better be bringing in the best 4 and 5 star talents as well as coaches to this university and have them truly believe that Clemson is the place that they're going to spend 4 years at....to become the men that they're going to be as well as the best athletes that they're going to be.

In this case it’s you don’t get what you pay for. And I think it’s safe to say that Dabo is spreading the wealth to his friends at the expense of the program.

Best line in Moneyball is when Brad Pitt has a come to Jesus moment with the guy playing David Justice.... Starts at 0:52.
Nah, I ain't paying you 7 million a year. The Yankees are paying half of your salary. That's what the NY Yankees think of you. They are paying you 3.5 million dollars a year to play against them.

You are firing Bear Bryant in the late 60s.
Championships 6 national (1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979) 14 SEC (1950, 1961, 1964–1966, 1971–1975, 1977–1979, 1981) 1 SWC (1956)

Like Dabo is facing. Bear would have been the first guy in line to openly pay players and get elite transfers so they couldn't play for other schools if he was around now.

When Bear Bryant coached, there wasn't NIL/Transfer portal. The rules were all different. Now, you will never win 6 Natty's in today's football if you don't adjust. Dabo has allowed the game to slip away by follwing yesterday's agandas.

I'm doing nothing. I'm playing the long game. I'm definitely not concerned about our head coach, and I am grateful for the job he has done over the past 14.5 years, not only for football, but for all of our athletic programs which need football for funding. I understand that there are tweaks that can be made, but I have also hired someone who I trust to make those adjustments. If I don't trust him, then I did my job poorly by hiring him (or giving raises, or retaining him, depending on when I took over as AD during his tenure). I'm realizing that there is no coach/program/sport that is without ups and downs, and I act accordingly, hoping that I can lead the entire athletic department with the same vision, grace, and faith that Dabo has with our football program.

He achieved the Mountaintop at Clemson and led the team to 2 National Titles. His pay is directly linked to the success he had and while it is perceived to include future success, it does not correlate to future success. Is he currently "earning" that 11Mil ?? Based on success on the field measured by wins/losses, I would say that no he is not. But my guess is he is working as hard or harder to get the team back to the top...BUT...see below
The landscape has changed, goal-post have been moved, and CDS is sticking to his ways. Will he ever get Clemson back to the top without changing, well it certainly appears that the changes happening may force his hand and bring a change to his style/process. We lack depth which was once a strong-suit. We lack overall team speed, which was once a strong-suit.

Those recruiting “whiffs” over the past 3-4 years are really starting to show, especially at DE. We really need an elite edge rusher, LB and QB for the ‘26 class. I wish we would pull out the checkbook and try to flip some for the ‘25 class.

I couldn't agree more. There are some who want to believe we can't do better than Dabo. I would tend to agree with that statement. However, we could get a better return on the investment that Clemson has put in Dabo. If he isn't willing to adapt with times or fire coaches who don't need to be here, then it might be time to ride off into the sunset. I know he won't be fired and I'm not asking him to be fired either before I get thumbed down. I'm asking for him to adapt and stop hiring his friends and family because it isn't working. If you have one of the highest paid coaching staffs in the country, then you should expect to make the playoffs frequently. If we don't make the playoffs this season, which I don't think we should and I don't think we will, IT WILL HAVE BEEN 5 YEARS SINCE WE LAST MADE THE PLAYOFFS. Let that last sentence sink in, if nothing else of my post does.

This year's elite will be next year's middle of the pack or worse. See Michigan, FSU, etc.
