Watching the news. Cam Ward was named the preseason ACC player of the year. Basically, they are expecting him to go off. I don't know much about him.

Decent transfer get, and could catch on to Cristobal's system pretty quick.
Wouldn't overlook him for sure

Put up stellar numbers in JUCO before an above average year at Washington State.
Not an extreme run threat, but rather scrambles and uses good pocket mobility to find open receivers.
They are certainly banking on projections of his talents with upgraded playmakers around him.
What I’m looking forward to most is seeing how he looks under Parker and Woods

He was at Incarnate Word before following his coach to Washington State.

Washington's State had like one of the top 5 worst rush offenses in America. Ward had to do everything himself, I wouldn't read too much into him having a bit of an off year. I think he's legit. Clemson has done a decent enough job bottling up good quarterbacks in the past but a potential Clemson vs Miami ACC Title game would be a heck of a matchup.

If he was our QB, we'd be a top 5 odds for national championship.***

LesterWagner1990 How much better will depend a lot on OL run and pass blocking (among worst in the ACC over the past 3 years) and WR improvement (how soon can TJ Moore and Bryant Wesco contribute?)
Cade and Garrett Riley now know each other, the Offense, their weapons, their tendencies, and their lowest hanging path to improvement. They will own it. Couple that with Matt Luke arrival, sand Dabo stirring the drink, no reason not to be optimistic for serious improvement.

We will be a very good team if Cade and the OL step it up, if not, We will be as good and go as far as our defense takes us.

Canes DL will be very very good this year. Big depth at DE.
I think canes are underrated and noles are big-time overrated.

Mario Cristobal has a proven track record of doing less with more than almost any coach. The dude couldn’t win big at Oregon with Herbert at QB. Until his teams start being better on the field than on paper, I don’t understand why they get the benefit of the doubt.

When Mario was at Oregon all he wanted to do was establish the run. After he established the run, then he'd consider throwing the ball. I don't think he knew he had a QB that could throw strikes. Of course Herbert was accused of throwing the ball to hard for the recievers to catch. That in my opinion was pretty dumb.
As for Ward.... the kid is a competitor and if mario let's him run and throw as part of the actual offense, then Miami might be pretty dangerous. But as long as mario want's to run, run, run and run some more, Miami is going to lose several games.

Rumor is he’s good enough to know to kneel when up in the fourth quarter.

His top 3 options in the portal were: Miami, FSU, and NFL.

He is a dual threat athletic QB. Great athlete at Wazzou. Only negative on him is he is a turnover machine, or at least was at Wazzou.
Was considered the #1 transfer portal QB last year.
All indications were that he was FSU's #1 choice and DJU was their 2nd choice. (Although you would never get Norvell to admit that today.)
My best guess on how his recruiting went down was:
1. He visited Miami and FSU checking on how much he would get from NIL deals with each. 2. He was evaluated by NFL and was told his draft range (and what he would make). 3. He went back to FSU and Miami and said, "This is what I can make in the NFL. What is your best offer?" 4. Miami gave a significantly higher number than FSU did, so he chose Miami.
Meanwhile, DJ waited patiently. He took no other visit than FSU. FSU didn't offer him a scholarship until after Ward made his decision. DJ knew that he was the second choice and was willing to wait the week or so while Ward made up his mind.
At least, that is the best I can piece together what happened during the recruiting process.

He's talented and makes a lot of highlight reel plays but he's also very turnover prone. He's fumbled 46 times in his career. He also will throw the ball up for grabs. In other words, he's volatile. He can beat you or he can give away a game. Should be very interesting to watch.

He sounds like the perfect QB for the up and down year Miami typically has.***
