1. 12 team playoff is implemented

But, even more important to shorten the season if

2. 16 team conferences become the norm.

With 16 team conferences, there is too much money to be made from having a semi-final round for the conference championship.

I would be approaching ESPN and the other TV markets and seeing what money could be made with:

1. 10 game regular season
2. 4 team playoff of conference championship.
3. 16 team playoff.

If the 64 teams (assuming 4 conferences of 16 teams each) made their own TV deal they wouldn't have to share any of that with the other schools (G5, independents, minor conferences, etc.)

I don't know how the details could all be ironed out, but I have no doubt the TV contracts would generate more money for each school than they are making now.

As for games played, with my format.

2 teams - 15 games max
6 teams - 14 games max

Clemson won the first Natty with 12 wins. Dabo is correct. If the number of playoff teams is expanded, the regular season will need to be shortened.

Weeks ago, I posted on here that the players projected to go high in the draft would not be happy with extending the season several games. They see it as an increased chance of injury. I've seen some openly express that concern now that the extended playoff plans have been announced.
