Brandon Streeter

Sep 16, 2021, 12:00 PM

We've seen him work with alot of qbs here at Clemson and have a ton of success. The turnaround from Cole Stoudt in his last game (Streeter's first game at Clemson) was nothing short of amazing. Watson and TL had incredible careers at Clemson and both led championship teams to victory. KB and Bryce both improved dramatically since they first arrived on campus. Were Watson and TL awesome talents? Of course, and they were head and shoulders better than anyone in the Dabo era! But, you can still see growth and improvement with all of the qbs and it hasn't been instant. It has taken some a few years to get things to click.

Because of his proven track record at Clemson, I have no doubt that our qbs are receiving great coaching and instruction. In fact, he's a much better qb teacher than his predecessor, Morris. With that being said, I think that the biggest problem with DJ might me mental. I think he's been taught what to do and knows what to do, and heck even looked great last year in his 2 starts! Often so far, it seems like proper footwork and progressing through reads, and getting rid of the ball goes out the window! At times, it seems like he's locked on to his primary receiver and then panicking or forcing the throw into multiple coverage or getting sacked.

Maybe it's because of our poor OL play, maybe it's losing Etienne and not having a proven rb to help carry the load. Idk, but our OL play was poor last year to and not great the past few yrs. I'm really hoping that the game slows down for him and I think that communication needs to improve between him and the other offensive players. If it does, then I think that he will start turning things around. Once he gets a little success that will give him some confidence and hopefully he will continue rolling from there.

I'm just a fan, not a coach, and definitely not an expert on coaching.

I agree with everything you say, but remember the exchange issues he and EtN had last year and he still preformed well. I think he said it himself recently, it is different no that he is the man and he probably is adding pressure to himself, which would be mental. Just like you I think he will be fine and it doesn't hurt us having a couple of cupcakes(SC State and the Shambling Tech) to get him going before playing another team that has a pulse(NC State).

Less pressure on DJ last year because no one expected him to come in and play as well as Lawrence. Now, the weight of the offense is on him and we all are expecting him to repeat everything TL16 did is his career. To me he just doesn’t look comfortable. The receivers can help him make the adjustment but he needs success! I’m hoping the coaches don’t forget TP! To me, he is better prepared mentally to lead the team. We will see what happens Saturday. I expect this to be a closer game than many think it will be. Watching the running backs will be especially interesting. I really like the Shipley kid

That is a problem, if it takes a few years to get things to click. They are gone in a few years. If you look at TL's freshman year and his next two years, it looks to me like he regressed. The team's seemed to anyway.

I agree with your assessment but he better start

Coaching DJU to move his feet as you point out.

Getting the snap and standing flat footed will get him hurt when the pocket collapses. Especially the way our OL is playing right now. I hope like he-ll that doesn’t happen. One thing I don’t understand and I know Coach Caldwell is why the OL is not consistent. I’m baffled.

Just think Watson and Lawrence came in more fundamentally sound and we expected DJU to be as good. Great players make coaches look a lot better. All I’m saying.

Here’s to beating Ga Tech!

GO TIGERS!!

Gotta improve the trenches for better QB play. Remember Dantzler took some getting used to at first.

Big Cinco fan as well but unsure I follow your logic. DJ5 has regressed under Streeter and TE and that's on both coaches and DJ to resolve. But I'm pulling for the big man and I'm confident improvement will happen. DJ-U is a great kid with a great family, and he knows it's best man up. Klubnick will be at Clemson in Jan to compete for #1 QB job.

I didn’t make the SC State game, but it looked like TP had better control of the offense and they played a lot faster tempo. Maybe a hurry up offense would help DJU by not having to think as much and let him just play. I am sure if then fans know what play we are running, the other team does too. Maybe new plays would help.

Seems like some QB's come in doing fairly well...

...and then regress before getting very solid.

Perhaps this is because the college coaches are correcting problems in the throwing mechanics that have been offset by shear talent. The long term effect is a much better QB. I hope this is the case for DJ.

My observations…

Sep 17, 2021, 8:43 AM

1. Tony and Jeff simplified Chad Morris’ offense for the Oklahoma game, that’s why Cole Stoudt had success. He was always a good QB, he just couldn’t grasp Morris’ complex offensive scheme.

2. Deshaun Watson sought an outside QB trainer as soon as Chad Morris left.

3. KB had an outside QB trainer while he was at Clemson.

5. TL’s footwork regressed under Brandon Streeter and we are watching DJU’s footwork decline before our very eyes.
