Brads problem is not coaching it is

In motivation(making sure your players are ready and play at a high level each game) - how many games do we lose that we should not , knowing how to make the right move at the right time( how many times is the ball in the wrong players hand at end of the game) , and recruiting. He would make an excellent assistant coach. Time to move on and give someone else a try. As F Howard once said- Brad needs to retire due to health reasons- He is making the fans sick.

also, there are some psychological aspects of the game that he doesn't do to make sure each player is mentally at his best. I think he doesn't know how to get each player mentally ready for competition during each game.

ok, it took over half the season for Chase Hunter to start playing better before getting s starting spot. Remember how bad he looked in Charleston? Why not insert him in the starting lineup earlier as an indication they trusted him.

Sometimes you try switching things up. When Honor and/or Dawes were in a thunk get him in as a starter even if just once or twice and go from there.

There are other factors and examples but don't have enough references, but a lot of players come into the game like they are not confident and think that is because of Brad.

If his players were not going to class like UNCheat

Actually, it took Chase Hunter 3 years to play better. Previously, he could not throw it in the ocean but has obviously worked very hard at becoming a good offensive player. He has a great first step and is one of the only players on the team who can get open one-on-one. Great athlete who hopefully will continue to gain confidence with success.

Brad's problem is the same that most ACC coaches have, recruiting. Better players result in better coaches and more wins, but that has been a problem forever at Clemson and a new coach will not change that overnight.

It's not recruiting as much as developing the players that come in. You can win at Clemson with high 3 star/and marginal 4 star or higher talent that Brad brings in. Rick Barnes and OP did that. You just half to get them ready all in unison instead of just one main player like a KJ McDaniels, Jaron Blossomgame, Simms and now PJ.

I always felt he was quick to blame others and not take responsibility for his mistakes. Our mistake has been to keep him this long. BYW I like him personally.

that a lot of coaches include to build team chemistry on the court is trust exercises. Trust your teammates basically. Not saying these guy don't like each other. I'm sure they do, but there is a difference on the court. Trust and it also comes from the coaching staff. believe that is why they have problems earlier in the season with turnovers. The coach has to also trust guys to be in a position to do something positive. Don't yank a player to quickly, or keep a guy on the bench too long. It is balancing act that the good coaches figure it out.

Aw, C'mon he has to develop players who are mostly 3 stars

or less, and he has gotten really good at it. Tyson, Chase, Hemingway, and Hall are way better than last year, almost unbelievable, if you look at last years games. I hope the Tigers go on a run, and you have to eat your words?

Well, why did the Tigers make the NCAAT last season? Hemenway had 16 its in a road game at Wake Forest. When has he looked like that in an ACC game this season? Tyson has improved some but it is marginal.

Want to look at a coach in the ACC who has improved it is Wake Forest under 2nd year coach Steve Forbes. Came from the SoCon at East Tennessee State where he mainly recruited Junior College players. He can't recruit JC players at Wake so he went out in the transfer portal and brought in 6 new players who are really contributing.

The players need to learn how to make free throws. Over the years we've lost a lot of games due to poor free throw shooting. I don't think these kids ever learned the mechanics of how to shoot them and probably rarely practiced them. Instead, they practice 3's and/or spinning slam dunks.

Our free throw shooting has been much better than it was

While at times this appears to be true, 2 simple questions:

1) what did you complain about last year when the Tigers shot their highest FT pct in like, 40 years?

2) did our failure to hit our only FT attempt vs Duke cause us to lose that game?

most people in this thread are the problem. Playing better as a team and you jokers who know nothing are still raggin on stuff when you dont know any of the team inner workings. You are all entitled to these opinions no matter how ill founded they are

believe Coach Howard said, "I retired for health reasons, the alumni got sick of me."

flag link

Disagree - it is several things

Jan 27, 2022, 1:52 PM

First, he won’t move on from mid major “small ball” where they simply shoot lots of 3s and don’t develop inside game like the big boys.
Second - he recruits small guards who are easily shot over or posted up.
Third - he won’t recruit an enforcer in the middle, a rebounder who develops in complimentary offense.
Fourth - he does not relate to students and fans. Thus the seats are empty.
Fifth - he does not have “go to” offense to break thru the long scoring droughts when the mid major balls are not dropping.

That being said, this might be the best team he has had at Clemson - and at the same time - the worst ACC there has ever been - and we still are not winning.
That should tell you something.

Keep on doing the same thing after 12 years and you will keep on getting the same results for the next 12 years. Those of you not concerned about getting into the NCAA tournament or being somebody in our own conference- then you have what you need Brad Brownell. Only thing consistent about Brad is his inconsistency. I don’t have to have a BB program that I can be proud of- so have at it
