As a huge Clemson fan who wears orange everywhere but lives outside of SC, I can tell you that people still don't have a clue where Clemson is. If they follow college football (which it is not very popular outside of the South - the NFL is what they all care about), they know it's somewhere in the South, but have no idea where.

I kinda like that we have an identity that is not

geography specific. I guess the majority of colleges reference their location in their name...at least the state. Especially successful ones, as they tend to be big state schools.

I know Baylor is in Texas, but I never can remember if it is in Waco or Lubbock. I bet it would even be an interesting study to ask fans nationwide wearing Alabama or Notre Dame gear what CITY the university is, and then have them locate it on a map.

But there are probably very few who, like Clemson, people seem to have trouble even placing in the right STATE. In the current Top 25, the following teams do not name either the city or the state they reside in:

11 Notre Dame
13 Wake Forest
16 Baylor
19 SMU
24 Coastal Carolina (still narrows it down to two states)
25 BYU
