B10 and SEC takeover for good (Article)

The ACC, B12, and any G5 conference are now the "Other Conferences" and the "P2" is officially in charge.

Clemson better figure out a way to leave quickly or face relegation forever.

I thought the reason we added Cal, Stanford , and SMU to the conference was to establish more pull in the future college football playoff landscape, so this isn’t adding up

Not sure why you thought this as they were added so the ACC would have the min number of teams required by the ESPN contract once CU & FSU bolted

I like pate, but that's beside the point. He's not saying it, just referring to what yahoo reports.

Definitely. Not sure it is over for good, but it seems that way. Maybe a 3rd option could be built? Doubt it.

So if they have control in 2026 they will eliminate the conference champion byes in year 1. It’ll be no more byes for conference champions in 2026. And by what, 2028 At the latest (?) they’ll eliminate conference champion auto bids all together. They won’t rest until it’s a 16 team playoff and the SEC and B1G get at least 10 of those 16 seeds.

They will get 16 if ND slips up. All they have to do is make sure 5 teams from each conference are ranked in the top 16. Which it almost was the past year.

It's nearly impossible with conferences having to play conference games within their respective conferences. Highly unlikely you'd ever have acc or b12 with 3 teams that have 2 losses. Because a 2 loss acc or b12 team having 3 two loss teams after conference championship would be very rare because all 3 of the possible 2 loss teams from the acc or b12 wouldn't be ranked.

Need a reality check. The B10 and SEC can pound their chests all they want, but unless they want to expand to 30 teams each, their pounding is all for naught. Let’s be more realistic folks. It’s all just silly rhetoric that will never fly.

They sure as heck will try to do it. The other conferences won't stand for it, so they'll begrudgingly allow the other conference champions in, but you're talking about a group of people that see a team go 12-0 in the ACC and think they're they're equivalent to a 5-7 SEC team. SEC Brain is a mind virus.

When in the history of college sports realignment have you heard of public knowledge of an invite before anyone switched conferences?

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Conferences wont matter soon regarding football.

New league of 48-64 teams, some from each current conference. Conferences will really only matter re other sports!

tnet-military.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So there will be two national championship games.

Sounds like fun but I'm only going to watch one. I hope Fox picks up the leftovers cause I got sick of ESPiN's SEC hype 2 decades ago.

Just another of the talking sports radio shows that most fan bases have to talk about their teams and what can be expected of them. IMO Josh Pate's radio show doesn't know any more than the rest of them, they will throw something out there to hear the response of their listeners...

Start learning to filter your news sources better. Anyone and everyone has podcast. Hot takes are what get the clicks. Anyone that believes this deserves to be in ESPN’s narrative purgatory. Last I checked Stanford still owns the most combined national championships and clemson still owns the second most CFP appearances and is top three in championships won in that time frame. Not to mention the ACC still owns 70% of the March madness wins and championships all time. ESPN is cnn is msdnc.

Read the article and step off the roof. In the 4-4-2-2-1-1 model, the ACC will get 2 spots in the Playoffs. If you have ever stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, you should easily understand that it will be much, much easier for us to be top 2 in the ACC than it would top 4 in the SEC.

Do you really think it'll stay that way?

Want to review how many times the G4 got into the CFP when it was a 4-team? I think it was 2 out of 40 teams? And because of the gap in coverage, the gap in competitiveness continues to widen.

Look at the ACC in football and basketball. We're slowly headed toward the AAC in being able to hold a candle to the SEC and B1G across the board.
