An admission...I went to a Coot Gator Bowl once

I am thinking it was the 1987 season, when I was a sophomore at Clemson. A buddy got two free tickets, so we made the 4 hour drive down. We didn't wear Clemson gear or anything, but we were 100% there to pull hard against the Coots.
As I recall, LSU scored two TDs in about the first two minutes, and it was never a game. Fun night, as the coots remained 0 for forever on bowl games.

And my memory may be betraying me. We were both students at the time, so definitely no fear.
And it is possible that if we weren’t in Clemson gear, I MIGHT have had an LSU shirt on, because my brother was a grad student there at the time.

Whale, if this is confessional time, I was a coot fan in high school. My favorite sport was basketball, and Frank McGuire was killing it with John Roche, Tom Owens, John Ribock and the rest of his NY imports. Definitely developed my dislike for the tarholes, terrapins and wolfpack early on, tho’! Lawd how I hated Phil Ford and his mastery of the four corners ‘offense’(?).
But still have never been to a coot game that wasn’t against my Tigers!

friends who had box seats. Went to some Tiger games wearing orange and smiled when I heard coots grumbling about why we were even allowed in there. Saw a few celebs like Tommy Lasorda walk through and a couple of SC governors. Also went there in an off year for the Tiger game ( only invited for one game per season and got 1st choice on which to attend) & watched Holtz blow a Tennessee game in the 2nd half by stopping a very good running game and throwing incomplete passes. Told my coot friend that his coach was going to blow the big lead if he kept doing that... and he did.

We toured the Saratoga on the way home, and they were watching us beat down the Nittany Lions on board.
I will never forget one thing they told us on the tour. They said that the catapult used to launch planes could throw a full-sized Cadillac a mile laterally before it hit the water! Caddies we’re very big in those days…and not particularly aerodynamic!
