with the backs that we have left?

Pace was a whirling dervish that could not hold onto the football this spring, now he is a decisive one-cut guy that can take it to the house. I stand corrected, I did not think he would become a productive back this quickly. Shipley was content to outrun guys to the sidelines, now he is a patient between the tackles runner and picks up short yardage when needed, completely antithetical to his billing as a speed demon.

Mafah looks like he is going to be a bad dude, and his pass pro was much better against Syracuse, he whiffed a couple of times against BC, but graded 100% in the last one.

IDK, I like what he has done here, despite the transfers, I think we were left with the creme.. What I thought would be a weakness is becoming a strength a lot quicker than the other units. If there has been a lone bright spot on offense, it has been the development of some young and in-experienced backs. I feel like we are good hands here for a while. The same can not be said with the other units, for now.

But have you heard that he isn't very nice to some of the guys and hurts their feelings?

More so, he even holds players accountable for their words and actions.

I will say, in these stoopid Transfer Portal days, I personally was impressed Lyn-J stuck with us last year when ETN9 took the full 4. Despite his leaving, I think that does say something about his character.

Also, I have only seen/heard/read whispers around a rub with CJ and the RB's, but nothing of any substance...can someone give me brief synopsis of the claims? I don't expect them to be verified or true, I just have no inkling what the beef could be. I have met the man twice and cannot say anything other than he is a gem and great person. Perhaps they did not share his love of Talladega Nights...

The claims are that better players started and players low on the depth chart decided to transfer. Can’t get any worse than that.

I questioned CJ over the Dixon situation, but he’s done a great job. His unit is the only one on offense that has played well.

CJ would be the only coach on the offensive side of the ball that I wouldn’t replace when the season is over.

Don't forget to mention the inability to hold onto a rarely thrown on-target ball, their sudden inability to get separation and the fact that they no longer attempt to block on screens.

The job Tyler has done is impressive.

Not at practice or in the Team room, so I have no idea what kinda job CJ is doing. As for the examples you listed; Pace was like 9th on the depth chart and Shipley is new, that development could simply be a function of getting the bulk of the first team reps in practice. You know the kind of development you would hope to see from your QB when he starts getting the first team reps.
As far as Dixon, again not in the RB room, but he’s been here 4 years and there’s never before been an indication of any discord. When you become a leader for the first time the toughest part is navigating discipline. This is CJ’s first rodeo; so, I’m gonna assume that there were things that both parties in this situation could have done better.

There were previous issues with Dixon but he was not in the spotlight so they were unnoticed.

If you look through his years on the roster, there were multiple games where we saw 3 or 4 RBs get carries or plays on the field and Dixon was nowhere to be found.

There were other games where he would appear early and not return later in the game.

It was always necessarily discipline issues but he never maintained consistent trust from the coaches to get his due time on the field.

Apparently this year he continued with similar practices but was much more upset that he was not given his time as the veteran in the room.

Again, I am not saying that he was a bad apple or anything like that over the span of his career, but he couldn't avoid slight missteps to keep himself well thought of in the eyes of the coaches.

Do you have actual first hand knowledge of him being an issue in the past or is this just an opinion. As a freshman he recorded stats in 12 of 15 games, as a sophomore every game, and last year he only missed game one. Which one of these games was he the subject of a disciplinary action?

As I said, it was not always a disciplinary thing but many times more of a lack of trust.

One specific example from last season:

After a couple of lousy kick returns vs Notre Dame at ND, Dabo directly told Dixon and Rodgers that there would be no more returns and they were to fair catch the rest or let them hit in the end zone.

On the very next kick return Dixon advanced the ball while Amari was trying to tell him to stop.

You can go back and find the play somewhere if you wish, but I am not good at providing links and such.

Dixon did not return to the field for the rest of the game.

This is a perfect example for your "stats recorded" argument because you will find stats for him in the ND game but there was still a situation that caused a loss of trust in a key spot.

This sort of thing rarely stopped Dixon from playing in garbage time, but his meaningful carries did not grow as one would expect over the span of his career.

How do you know what the coaches told the returners during the ND game, was that something reported by the sideline reporter?
At any rate there’s a big difference between making a mistake during a game that erodes the coaches trust in you and being suspended from a game. How many times did Dabo rip Andy Teasdale a new one and I never saw him lose any playing time. Same for almost every wide receiver who has ever played at Clemson. Lynn-J didn’t get suspended from the first half of the Jawja game cause he made an on field mistake. This is what Tony Elliot had to say about the situation:

“I have (had conversations with Dixon) because I’ve been a part of his life,” Elliott said. “But at the same time, too, C.J. has to establish the culture in that room. Really the biggest thing is just accountability and communication between the two. I remember when I first came in (as Clemson’s running backs coach in 2011), I had Mike Bellamy, I had Demont Buice, (Andre) Ellington was an older guy, I had Hot Rod (Roderick McDowell), and I had to establish the dominant role in that room. Obviously, Ellington had been here for a while, and not saying that we were butting heads, but we had to get on the same page. He had to understand what my coaching style is, and that’s what you’re going through there.

Sounds to me like this was a personality issue with two alpha males, one of which was in a position of authority. Like I said before managing people isn’t easy, and I believe if CJ was a little more seasoned of a leader he might have been able to better diffuse the situation.

It never was disciplinary action on Lyn J last year, but he was benched a few times...mainly because he was coming back from injury and didn't trust his knee. He wasn't putting it all out there on the field and Tony in turn sat him a few times. He finally came on later in the season, but he was taken back by Travis's decision to return last year, and I think that did affect him mentally a bit.

This year, it sounds more like he and Spiller had some issues, and moreso with authority of Spiller and his feeling that he by seniority (and patience in staying the course after Etienne reurned) deserved the starting role, no questions asked...sounded by several reports like Spiller had certain expectations of LJ that he wasn't following or meeting up to, and LJ in turn would try going over his head to Tony (which he trusted more), which made things even worse with his room coach.

One of the reasons my interest as to the NFL became less over the years was guys move too much. I don't mean for them, but for fans. You get to like a guy, and he is gone. Team loyalty is a thing for fans and at one time was the similar for players because they had less choice. I understand it, but it still sucks for fans.
CFB is big business, and fans like to pretend it is not.

I’ve enjoyed how our RBs have played this year. Heavy north-south, hit the holes hard and with purpose. When they dance, or get too lateral and lose yards they get to ride the bench for a bit. Has been a well coached position.

How dare you make a positive poast for a program that since 2015, has only gone 83 - 9, 6 straight conf. titles, 6 straight wins against your coots, played in 4 CFPs and won 2 national titles, with a head coach that cares as much, or more, about a player's off the field success.
