All the living ones I mentioned are retired but they can still be playing . It doesn't have to be 5 each either , just who comes to mind to you .

Ali would be at the top of my list, too. And, just like Bo

Jackson, Ali's career, great as it was, will always have some of that wistful "What if" associated with it. As in, What if he had not been banned from boxing for the 3 1/2 prime years of his career, due to refusing military induction.

I also think he, along with Willie Mays, who is still alive at age 90, are prime examples of "Staying too long at the Dance". Ali paid a terrible physical price for doing so. And as for Willie, unfortunately, my first memory of him will always be of him nearly falling down trying to get to first base on a weakly hit infield ball. As a New York Met.

Funny you mention Willie Mays ! My brother has always been a huge Met fan and even went to the 5th and deciding game of the 69 Series .He thinks Willie may have been the best all around player ever but for years he has talked about how bad of a fielder he was with the Mets in 73.

I know my memory is exaggerating, but I swear, Willie

moved AND LOOKED like about a 60 year old man that last year.

We tend to think that all those old time superstars were rich, because we project modern salaries backwards. Although it was considered big money at the time, Willie Mays BIGGEST contract was for $105,000. His net worth, now, at age 90 is estimated at just over 3 million dollars. Most of that was probably earned after he retired.

Sorry, but Arnold made his fame by juicing and lying about it for years. He was a big time phony!!
