CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – With the 2024 Major League Baseball postseason set to begin on Tuesday, October 1, 23 former student-athletes from current ACC member institutions are expected to appear on playoff rosters. The league’s 22 projected players in the postseason are the most of any conference in the country.

The Detroit Tigers lead all postseason bound teams with six former ACC players. The Tigers roster includes Notre Dame’s Sean Guenther and Matt Vierling, Georgia Tech’s Brant Hurter and Justyn-Henry Malloy, Florida State’s Tyler Holton and Virginia Tech’s Kerry Carpenter. Detroit will meet the Houston Astros in the Wild Card round.

The other American League Wild Card matchup will feature three former ACC players. Kansas City will be represented by Virginia’s Daniel Lynch IV and Stanford’s Kris Bubic, while the Baltimore Orioles will include Stanford’s Austin Slater.

Both the Cleveland Guardians and the New Yorks Yankees will have a bye into the American League Divisional Series. The top-seeded Yankees boast NC State’s Carlos Rodón, Duke’s Marcus Stroman and Florida State’s Luke Weaver, while the the Guardians, the league’s No. 2 seed, includes former Miami standout Andrew Walters.

The National League’s top-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers boast three former ACC standouts in Louisville’s Will Smith, Stanford’s Tommy Edman and Virginia’s Chris Taylor. The Dodgers await the winners of the Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres Wild Card Series, featuring four former ACC standouts. San Diego brings Louisville’s Bryan Hoeing and Boston College’s Michael King into the playoffs, while Atlanta boasts another pair of former standouts in Louisville’s Adam Duvall and Clemson’s Eli White.

A pair of former ACC standouts in NC State’s Trea Turner and Clemson’s Weston Wilson will look to bring another World Series title to Philadelphia as the Phillies enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed. The Phillies will meet the winners of the Wild Card series between the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Mets. Boston College’s Sal Frelick highlights the third-seeded Brewers’ roster.
