Since some of you think that our recruiting has fallen off, please review some of the 3 star players we got in the 2023 class:
Avieon Terrell Khalil Barnes Shelton Lewis Tyler Brown
All may be starters this year as second year players! When this class is looked at 2 years from now, I think we will be glad we got them!
This is mainly for those who think the number of stars is all that counts in recruiting....

Not one 3 or 4 star lineman in the bunch …like the old coach said I’d rather have 5 good lineman and one good quarterback

Just to play devils advocate here, should we not go after 5 stars now because you found some exceptions to the rule? Love these players, and yes, they are/will be good. But if we had gotten 5 stars at those positions they also may have been that good or better. There's no way to tell. Everytime someone says Hunter Renfrow was a 3 star, I think yeah, thats the exception. Not the rule. Sammy was a 5 though. I'm just glad we are getting good guys. But some of these guys haven't fit the bill yet. Noble Johnson, Adam Randall,.....and these little renfrow type guys like Hampton Earle. It's like a charity sometimes at Clemson. I have no problem when we are winning by 17 in the fourth qtr when these guys come in the game and we cheer them on. Thats cool. They have ZERO business playing against significant opponents in tight games.

Yea. He pretty much proved the OP’s point. Some 5 stars are busts and some 3 stars turn into superstars. And some of each pan out just as predicted. I do believe Venebles and Jeff Scott were both very good at evaluating and recognizing talent at the HS level and losing them may be having as big an impact on recruiting as it is anywhere else.

Our 2023 and 2024 classes each look excellent on both sides, with the above 3-stars mentioned in the OP further showcasing our ability to identify well the under the radar types, which we've had great success with over the years.
With improvements these past two cycles I feel like more and more that those two years where Covid denied Dabo his secret sauce of getting kids on campus to evaluate along with visiting homes to get better reads on their environments and influences had a significant impact. Frankly, these past several seasons we've lacked that on the field leadership we've come so accustomed to experiencing under Dabo. From the sounds of things over spring and summer this seems like it's coming back into form.

The Point

The point is, we have had a lot of guys who have not been rated highly that have been starters. In most cases, if they are starters, they have replaced a 4-5 star to get there. I trust our coaches to get the best players that we need, not to just follow the services doing the rating. And one of the last things we should worry about is our recruiting "rank" at the end of each cycle.
And, I would assume any highly rated guy (4-5 stars) that have the kind of character we like, we go after, so there is no "go for them now"...

NOWADAYS, because of the cutbacks at ALL the recruiting services, their camps get priority , not as many people to attend games and do film study.
Trust the coaches, NOt Idiot Keyboard Knowitalls on the Net. No ONE listens to them, they really don't matter.
This team has 62 4 & 5 Stars and about 20 FORMER 3 stars ready to compete.

When people say our recruiting has fallen off they are typically talking about offense. The defense has maintained the same success we had during our run.
The offense has without question taken a step back in recruiting. We are simply not as talented on offense. Tyler brown doesn’t start for any of the teams between 2015-2020.
