new Nike coaching shirts, or tunics, or smocks, or frocks....I don't know what they ell they are but they look stoopid, like somebody's Grandma made'em. Got nothing against Grandma's, they are awesome; but coaches attire that looks like they handstitched it for their youngins to work in the kitchen with them is out.

Big mistake. He does not have the metal to be a DC. Being smart(as he has been tagged) has nothing to do with what is the key for all great defensive coaches: imparting a mindset of aggression at all times when executing all phases of a productive defense. Instead of "blowing up" the mesh, we were" catching" it. Where were our talented linebackers? Zero pressure on the QB. No comment is necessary about our DB performance. All we heard before the season was what a "great defense" we had. I don't think so. Dabo better bring a sense of reality to this so-called coordinator or it is going to be a very long and disappointing year.

It's "meddle", and we're 8th in the country in rush defense.

The obviously biggest issue we have in the secondary are two weeks of starters missing, against two prolific passing offenses.
It's really lame to throw in the towel at this point.
Take care though.

Problem w. Goodwin: Staff general vs. Battlefield commander
Sep 25, 2022, 7:36 PM
[ in reply to Re: My biggest problem with Wes Goodwin ] |
|
Wes Goodwin's background as an analyst (in which brainy analysis and creative solutions take place in a not-needed-to-be-fast environment ... i.e., like a staff general in the military) does not necessarily translate into 'field general' type decisions (ala Schwarzkopf type general), in which fast decisions (i.e., decisions which are good but not necessarily perfect) are necessary in a chaotic environment.
The mindset to deal quickly in a chaotic environment requires a bit of experience. We do not yet know if W.Goodwin has this capacity.
The good news is that he's made adjustments to the screen pass attack (this took a few games) and then made the adjustment to the deep passing game (yesterday against Wake).
Goodwin's pace of adjustment (based on his slowness in adjusting to the screen pass offense from game 1 all the way to game 3) has improved (based on adjusting his D to stop the deep pass and to accept the risk of giving Wake extended times of possession ... which was the correct decision).
(?) Will Goodwin's rate of reacting to a 'bad defensive alignment' and adjusting his D to a 'good defensive alignment' improve quickly enough to keep our D from being abused by the really good teams?
(*) I doubt that he'll be 'all the way there' by NC State game, but if he adjusts his D after 2 really bad consecutive series to a better alignment, then this will demonstrate further progress.
(*) On the other hand, if it takes him 6 or 7 consecutive series to make the adjustment against NC State (and NC State will adjust their O if our initial D alignment stops them), then we will lose on Saturday.
(***) If for some reason Goodwin simply cannot jettison the 'perfect defense after extended analysis' mindset, then he will fail as a DC. We can only hope that his mental agility is comparable to his overall intellect, and then make the adjustment to the 'field general' role.

in the NFL. You know, the best football level in the world. NOTHING he has done has to a lack of adjustment. Thats just you trying too hard.
We're 8th in the country in rush defense. We got statistically hurt by two games against prolific passing offenses with several secondary starters out.
We haven't lost a game under Wes.
You're trying way too hard.

Assistant to the head coach is not a coaching position…

It’s like the assistant to the CEO in a company.
He may turn into a good DC eventually, but the injury excuse is getting old fast. He knew going into both games what he had and he chose to leave his secondary on an island.
