You are young and don't know Clemson basketball if you don't know Grayson Marshall. He was one of the best guards we have ever had.

That’s like being the tallest midget in the class.

You could only wish to be that tall. Dude was a bad ###.

If Brad could sign a “Grayson Marshall” it might have

Jun 28, 2022, 7:30 PM [ in reply to That’s like being the tallest midget in the class. ]

gone a long way toward helping him get over the hump in his career at Clemson. I’m not sure he has the time now.

Grayson Marshall was a really fine point guard during an era when the ACC was very strong. He went head to head with the great Muggsy Bogues of Wake Forest and fouled Bogues out.

Along with Horace Grant, he led Clemson to a great season and an NCAA birth. He got injured, severely limiting what he could do in the ACC and NCAAs. Clemson was upset by SW Missouri. Still, at the risk of another of your “tallest midget” comparisons, that squad was arguably the best team in Clemson history.

While I’m not sure what good it does for former players to state the obvious, his opinion as well as that of Dale Davis should not be overlooked simply because they are critical of what the see.

And ... Cliff Ellis May have cut some recruiting corners in his time at Clemson, but the players he brought in were no more academically deficient than many of those who were brought into Chapel Hill and are now enshrined in the UNC Basketball HOF while never bothering to attend class or graduate.

Cliff was a fine coach who knew the game and he actually helped Clemson to gain a bit of traction in basketball. Maybe a bit too much traction for the Tobacco Road crowd at the time.

Winning the ACC regular season in 1989-90 was a monumental accomplishment. Considerably more difficult than suddenly getting hot in the ACC tournament.

No ... Cliff Ellis hoops was not something that would impress fans of the great blue blood programs, but in retrospect, it was sure a pretty decent era for Clemson.

There are many who would go back to the Cliff Ellis era of Clemson hoops in a heartbeat if it were possible.
