DJU Can Succeed

It is great to hear that DJU is healthy and in better shape. I am sure this will lead to on the field improvement. However, what will help most, is a different approach to game planning than last year.
For most of the year, DJU was either running for his life or staring down receivers. If the OL doesn't improve and if receivers can't catch, the results will be very similar. Now, don't get me started on some of his errant throws...but this wasn't the main issue as those usually made up only 2-4 throws per game, granted some were into the stands.
Here is how to build confidence in a QB. Tell him the exact route/receiver he is going to throw to on certain plays. Forget progressions and reads. Get in rhythm, 5-7 step drop, look off the safety and let it rip, don't think, know in advance exactly where you are going. On these types of plays, it is the receivers responsibility to go get the ball, fight for it, knowing it is coming hell or high water. If it is intercepted it is the receivers fault (assume the throw isn't completely off). Have plays where they tell him, go with your 2nd read, that is the throw we want you to make. Scheme a for a specific route to be the primary target, Alabama does this incredibly well, the QB has no doubt where the ball is going.
This is not a solution for an entire game plan but in certain situations, down & distance, score, momentum, it can allow him to drop back and play freely. If you watch some of his Hudl videos from HS and even BC & ND freshman year tape, when he gets in rhythm with confidence he can make any throw needed.
If DJU has a "solid" season we go to the CFP, it he doesn't and Cade is forced into action, I don't see us running the table. At this stage Cade isn't as developed at TL, he still needs one more year.

Cade’s progression is still to be decided, I agree, hope and pray DJ is incredible this season!

Would like to hear how the coaches are going to help put DJU in better situations. Blocking schemes, high percentage routes, tempo, stack formations, etc. There are actually lots of things a good OC can do to help his QB out. Most importantly build back his confidence, he needs to be right before NC State comes to town.

Absolutely agree, I hope I am wrong but I don't think DJ is going to go down as a great QB. I will settle for just good, which is why I think the coach staff needs to get creative. If Georgia can win a natty with Bennett then we can win it with DJU.

If you stripped all of the opinions off of Tnet, there wouldn't be anything left.

Cade Klubnik won in Texas at a higher level of competition than Trevor Lawrence. He then won approx. 10 of 11 skill drills at the Elite 11 all-star camp including achievement of overall #1 ranking (something TL16 did not achieve) against the nationwide best of the best including Texas starter Quinn Ewers. Not saying Klubnik's better or more prepared than TL16. Saying bull malarkey he's not prepared to start for Clemson in 2022. Klubnik is more accurate, more mobile and better equipped to lead. IMO it's disrespectful to Klubnik and the other 21 starters to make it all about DJ, one of our least effective 2021 starters. Best man up at all positions.

Your optimism is commendable, but...

if you honestly believe DJ only had 2-4 errant throws per game, you are wearing your homer hat way too tight.
His accuracy was terrible. He doesn't need to rip it and grip it, he's gotta make the 3rd and 5, 3rd and 7 throws every time. Forget the 5-7 step drops, just read the defense, thread the needle and take what is available. If he can't punish defenses playing two-deep safeties, sit him down and give Cade the reigns.
It was painful watching him pass because he made the smallest things so difficult.
I won't even bother listing everything else he was bad at. If, by some miracle, he's improved enough to be a worthy starting QB, I'll celebrate with everyone else. But it ain't gonna happen.
The fact is our season rests in the hands of a freshman QB. If Cade isn't ready by game 4 or 5, our championship level defense will be wasted.

Unfortunately, the play you describe as an example of how to build confidence in a QB is also a very accurate description of the pick 6 vs GA last year. Receiver breaks off the route and the ball lands right in the lap of the DB.

Yeah, I was about to reply that his 3rd paragraph is exactly the approach that encourages staring down a receiver. This is "big boy football." If you can't go through progressions at this level (and after this long in the program), you can't be the #1.

We have a whole lot of blame to go around but this team did figure it out and finished like champs.
How many teams could have been down almost 30 scholarship guys and still won the last 6.
It was amazing considering, Dabo’s best coaching job yet!
We have a lot to be proud of!
The frustration with DJ is we had Trevor who was a master at QB and then DJ couldn’t make a decision before it was a total emergency.
Indecision caused several injuries and it snowballs from there. Hopefully the hurry up offense will help him react rather than think!
Let’s go DJ and Tigers! Come out blazing a trail!

Hopefully he’s fixed his footwork. That is the primary issue. Maybe it was the knee but more likely just a product of having such a gifted arm he didn’t have to have good footwork in high school. Hoping the best for him and the team.
