Well-placed contemporary music on a tv show to create moods. Not sure anyone has ever done it as well since, but John Hughes came close on the big screen.

from Dirty Harry movies to Cool Hand Luke to Bullitt chase scenes or a buncha TV shows. It just has that 70's sound to it. Can't describe it, but I know it when I hear it. Badazz bass & drums.

a song that perfectly "sets the mood" for the show. Midnight Caller intro. It's got that smooth, jazzy, sultry sound... perfect tone for the show... late night DJ in late 80s San Francisco. It's no classic and was only on a few years, but I always watched it... maybe because I was traveling to SF a lot during that same time.
