Nepotism

Oct 31, 2021, 7:21 PM

Too many days I read slams here as to the Venables boys.
I disagree.
I waited to post this until we all had a beer tonight as I aint earned a TD this week.

Make no mistake --> I would start my boy over Lawrence Taylor.
Coach V would not. It aint that he loves the team more, but that he loves his boys more. He raised them to earn their way.

Coach V would like to have Lawrence Taylor, but he don't. He has good players and plays those available who give TIGERS the best chance to win.
Very few claim he is over rated or doing a poor job. Some here do shout "nepotism".

-- Tyler Venables is a solid player who is improving and has impressed me. He is a baller who has played well. He has pulled his weight and is more than competent.
-- Jake is bigger and injured. We are less without him this season. We are less. Any who say different -> well I try not to offend any of my Tnet friends, so lets agree we disagree (but you are wrong).

I saw both boys play in High School games where they were stars. They could still be stars on many campus but chose Clemson.
Playing for me would be easy. Playing for Brent -> a hard road to take on.

Their advantage is not nepotism, but that they have been raised and trained by Coach V. They know football better than me, and even better than some here on TNet. They are tough and know the game.

I am a fan of what both have accomplished. They aint even done yet.

Anyone says they shouldn't be playing, they're not a Clemson fan. Furthermore, should be banned from Tnet. The kids can ball and a lot of teams recruited them. Idiots.

Truth is none of these kids require $$ to attend college. There is a bigger picture.

I am 100% on board if Coach V gives his daughters a football scholarship. He would never leave Clemson if his daughters were on the team.

Will Sweeney has been a solid contributor to Clemson in serving as our holder on extra points and field goals. That is an important part of our team/ Did I read today that he has held for over 500 attempts. I'm sure there probably has been a muff but I don't remember one. He is Mr. Reliable

Tyler Venables was a 3 star with offers from Wake, Nevada, Jax State, and Coastal C. He is on the roster at Clemson for one reason and only one reason, and it has nothing to do with talent.

Wake and CC are top 25 this year, Tigers are not.

You are a coot !! No real UGA fan would post that.

To your point about Coastal and Wake being ranked while Clemson is not, that's because those teams are better than Clemson. It has nothing to do with the fact that Tyler Venables is on the roster because of his last name.

I see you guys are back to being Bama fans. I'll believe UGA can beat Bama when I see it. Either way, win or lose, we're playoff bound. None of that has anything to do with the reason Tyler Venables is on the Clemson roster.

So what is your reason for being a troll? You said good luck in some made up bowl which was a response to someone saying something about the national championship which was in response to your remarks about Venebles' offer list and talent.

Amazing how the pack mentality thrives here. I made an accurate observation about Venables' recruiting. No one reading this believes Clemson would have signed him if his dad wasn't DC. Instead of responding to that your buddy opted for a cheap comment about UGA, which seems obligatory to any comment that doesn't parrott something about the greatness of Clemson or Dabo.

Spending so much energy here on a Tiger Bored seems weird. Should you not be on a UGA board celebrating with friends over the Florida win? I have many UGA friends. You seem to be less a fan of UGA and just a tater hater.

Nobody really minded AF until he decided to start wearing his A€€ on his shoulders this fall. Now that IGA is up and Clemson is finally down he’s hellbent on retribution. Typical IGA fan. You only hear from them when they are winning so it’s not often.

I don't hate Clemson at all. Never personally insulted anyone else here (unlike some). I've engaged in some friendly (at least on my part) and spirited banter. People here say far worse about Clemson, the OC, the QB and even Dabo than I do. Because "Dawg" is in my profile instead of something-Tiger, people seem to either get mad or have their feelings hurt.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nov 1, 2021, 9:07 AM

Againt my better judgement I'll reply.

How do I get branded a loser here? Pretty simple really. Post something outrageous like "Tyler Venables was a 3 star recruit with limited offers." That's enough to send this place into a rage. Had a Tiger fan posted it he would be a "coot."

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You weren’t branded a loser

Nov 5, 2021, 11:20 AM

So much as called out for childish behavior typical of losers. Has nothing to do with a post about TV.

The punchline that is the IGA fanbase is what you’re branded with. You’re all the same.

Say what you will about the Venables kids but

Oct 31, 2021, 8:17 PM

Tyler Venables will lay the wood to someone and is a pretty good DB. Case in point - watch the last play of the game last night on that FSU hook and lateral. Tyler laid out FSU's #9 and ultimately took him out of the play clearing the way for Carter to scoop and score.

OK, so your saying that he's a next level safety that will be drafted? You want to talk about a recent safety than can bring the wood? That would be Tanner Muse. After being injured last year he was called up to the 54 man roster with the Seahawks today. You can slice it anyway you wish. Tyler is 4-5 inches shorter and 25-30 lbs lighter than a potential NFL safety. Stated another way, we have taken a step back without Muse.

from the comment that someone that is a "pretty good DB" to being a next level safety that will be drafted in the NFL. Maybe you just want to argue or maybe you misread the comment but either way I definitely never said that Tyler Venables is an NFL caliber safety. Maybe in 2/3 years he will be an exceptional DB (who knows) - but for now Tyler Venables is a pretty good player that, like most "pretty good players" does a lot of good things but also makes mistakes along the way.

No, I did not misread your comment nor up for any argument. Much rather discuss or offer a different perspective than argue on an internet board. Tyler may well be a "pretty good player". My comment comes from the frustration that we need difference makers to pull ourselves out of the ditch we currently inhabit. We have sunk quite a distance in a few short years to be clinging to a lead against Ga Tech, Boston College, Cuse, etc. These are simply bad teams. We have more than enough "pretty good players" or as some might refer to to them, role players. Two more that happen to be the coach's kids is just rubbing salt in the wound. We are not going to compete with Bama, UGA, and OSU with 22 players the caliber of the of the two young men in question. And I am sure they are indeed fine young men that are no doubt giving 100% in practice and during the games. It's not a personal attack, just my perspective on their ability as it relates to the current top tier programs.

They both deserve their schollies - the other coaches kids - not so much! When you're making about $10M per year, or even $2.5M, how about letting your boys to walk on and give 4-6 more scholarships to kids that could also help, imagine if we had 4-6 more Olinemen, more depth and maybe 1-2 who could play above a Southern conference level.

Yes, Ben played a lot of snaps and he played with great heart and emotion. I believe he is the only first team All American to be passed over in the draft. The Clemson Media machine plays a role in in the recognition that players may or may not get. As for Clemson LB's I don't see Ben in the top twenty CU backers since I have been watching since 1965. It's a long list of great ones that have played in the NFL - some despite overcoming physical shortcomings such as a Keith "Termite" Adams. That's 186 tackles in a season (11 games) and 27 in a single game. Keith didn't make first team All American but moved on to the NFL after 3 years. Truth is, we have been blessed throughout the modern era with some great LB's that were great players at Clemson and moved on to the NFL without much recognition or fanfare. Perhaps this was due in part to playing on teams that were not particularly good.

Picking great players over years is an impossible task. Woody was almost alone on the field but had talent to spare. Put any Tiger QB in his spot and I think results would be less.

Ben Boulware is a top ten all time Clemson player.
