Plumbing.net: Tub question

My bathtub when taking a shower backs up water in the bottom. Gets about ankle high, then all of a sudden empties quickly.
I've Draino'ed the drain
I've plunged the drain
I've snaked the drain.
I don't want to go under the house and pull the pipe out to see what the problem is because it's 1963 cast iron pipe. The moment I put a pipe wrench on it it will fall apart.
What do jounge? What could be causing that?
I would think it was something stuck in the pipe but that would be a continuous slow drain. Not a slow drain then all of a sudden it empties.

Water has to get deep enough in the shower to be above the high spot to start a siphon so it will drain.

I hope
Same with sinks etc
You’ve basically got in your pipe a situation just like the way a toilet fills until the water in the bowl is higher than the trapway
