In my opinion our greatest concern facing the Clemson

Mar 5, 2014, 9:09 AM

sports family this spring is not whether the baseball team continues to fall on its face, or who will come out of spring football as the no. 1 QB, but whether or not we can keep the best coach on our campus on our campus. I think there will be some large carrots dangled towards Coach Brownell come April after his miracle season at tiger town. Just think, he gets so much out of so little (not demeaning KJ by any respect), coaches at a school where the student and fan base apathy looms every time the team hits the Littlejohn court, and yet he still makes it work.
I'm not sure if the right situation opens up after the big dance, but our athletic department needs to take measures to lessen that possibility.

You nailed that man. Brownell is an amazing coach, and Clemson is very lucky to have him. He has taken what was given and ran with it. Coach brownell if you read any of these post just know you are a true asset to the clemson community thank you.

Brownell won't be as hot a commodity until he guides his own players to the NCAA tournament. I'm not at all worried about it after this season.

the total picture when selecting such an important hire.

He needs to have a Shaka Smart mentality..........

Embrace the school and the community, not jump at any offer for more $$$(although I realize those were some offers) and try to build an elite program of your own which increases the chances of longevity at one school. Sometimes it backfires, but it can also be quite rewarding.

maybe Clemson needs to have a mentality of embracing him

instead of the other way around....support the team...support his program through additional funds for his asst coaches....provide a top level arena for his team to play in.

That also needs to be part of the dynamic, but........

unfortunately we have seen schools do just that and these coaches bolt anyway just for the $$$$. Heck, Smart turned down some of the best bb programs in the U.S.
