Baseball Reviews

Mar 2, 2020, 3:08 PM

Sunday's debacle in the bottom of the 6th highlights something I think baseball, as a whole, gets wrong. At the conclusion of baseball's umpire review's there is just an out or safe signal given with no further elaboration or explanation. I know it's not a large an issue for those watching on TV, but, as a fan in the stands yesterday, I had no clue what the ruling was and had to race to twitter to find out. I thought they had decided it was actually a catch, and wasn't even aware the runner was being called out for passing his teammate. In reviews in football and hockey, the official gives the call with an explanation over the PA ("After further review, the pass was incomplete as the receiver did not maintain possession throughout the process." or "No goal-the player pushed the puck into the net with a kicking motion"). I think baseball needs to do a better job keeping those at the game in the loop, could you imagine if during the Fiesta Bowl the officials just came out after the Ross play and gave an incomplete signal and resumed play?

Simple answer stop ALL replay calls...baseball, basketball & football. Make the officials do their job.

I agree, we’ve gotten to the point where officials are using replay as an insurance policy to not do their job. Human error is part of the game, and typically evens out
