I think BV made a huge mistake

For years he said he wasn’t interested in the HC position because he just liked coaching and wanted to avoid the politics. He’s now in a position where the Sooners have there first losing season in 24 years and that crowd will have him on the hot seat. They take football seriously and he’s crapin the bed!

When Riley left, OU lost a LOT of talent. Give BV a year or two to bring in talent (which he did this year).
But, true, the Oklahoma faithful are probably not very happy with the losing - or much better than us tnetters have been concerning our coaching staff sticking with DJU, eh?

He was making 2.5 million a year at Clemson and he had zero pressure. Money isn’t everything either, your health both mentally and physically matter.

Guess what, even if he does flop, and no one can say he will or wont after one year, you honestly don't think every serious contender in the country would fall over themselves to hire him? To have arguably the best Defensive coordinator run their defense the minute OU cuts ties with him? Your argument is invalid, we all miss him but he made the right move for setting his family up for the rest of their lives. If OU fired Brent tomorrow he will be employed before the day is out if he wants to be.

He is dynamic and passionate. He’s worked with the best. He will almost certainly figure it out. If he doesn’t, he’ll have his pick of DC jobs (or lower HC jobs). Or he can retire. He’s fine. He had a bad first year. It happens.

BV left for the situation he wanted. He always loved OU and thought them a more prestigious blue blood program than even the current Clemson program. His high school sweetheart wanted him back at their 20th reunion and he jumped.

But I don’t believe he made a mistake. No one misses him more than I do! I love Coach V but to be offered a job at OU. Easy, take it. If it doesn’t work out he’ll be coaching as a defensive coordinator the second he is fired and wants another job.
I think our defense did not live up to what we could have this year. So it pains me to say this but I’m happy for him and wish him nothing but the best!

the Sooners were decimated by transfers when Lincoln Riley left for So Cal. BV will be given time to right that ship. How much time remains to be seen.

And even a rational OU fan isn't going to expect 6-7 after that string of 10+ win seasons with multiple CFP appearances, conference titles, and Heisman winners.
How would Clemson fans feel if Dabo left, took CK with him, and we went 6-7 next year? Would they excuse it because our QB left? Nope.

I wasn’t happy that he left Clemson but I believe he waited for the right time and place to take a head coaching position. He’s a smart man. He’ll get OU back on track. Not a lot of defense last night but OU lost a lot of good players and a few more sat out of the bowl game.

If you told me I could go triple my salary for several years but then I’d get fired but could go back doing what I was doing before and go back making what I was making, I’d take it. Long term, he’ll be just fine.

He needs time to recruit the players for his system. I mean, OU’s defense was awful under Lincoln Riley and BV is a defensive oriented coach. Then they lost a Heisman QB and a big play WR. Switching from Riley to BV while losing your best weapons will lead to a lengthy rebuild.
Orrrr, all of Dabo’s assistants will never be good head coaches. Chad failed, Jeff failed, BV and Tony were bad in year one.

BV and OU has the #5 composite (#6 overall) 2023 recruiting class, according to 247, with 25 commits plus 5 transfers in. Of those 30 total, 20 are defensive players plus 3 more athletes which can be either offense or defense. He also got a 5 star QB out of Texas, along with, 4 O Linemen. We'll see where he stands in 2024.

BV will build that team up in his image and they will be fine. I am sure some OK fans are unhappy now, but they will be back - with a vengeance. I certainly wouldn't start writing him off after one season.

I tend to disagree. He was waiting on the right job to come along . After loosing numerous players to the portal when he took over just look at the recruiting class he has this year. He getting the players that want to be there and who are all in . Just give him time. He will get Oklahoma back to where it needs to be . He will take a lot of how Dabo runs Clemson and repeat it there . The right way.

Always thought he was a lifetime Defensive Coordinator! This is being born out right now at Oklahoma! Not all coordinators will make good Head Coaches! He was NOT Head Coaching material in my mind EVER!

I think BV is better suited as a DC that’s just my opinion which isn’t anything. Even in his DC tenure at OU it wasn’t that impressive but everything just fit at Clemson so it just worked. Either way he has set his family up for a lifetime so nobody can fault him for taking the job.
