Major Props to Andrew Booth

Jan 1, 2022, 2:16 PM

There were a boatload of players that sat out non-CFP bowl games, particularly those who are likely to be drafted in the 1st round.

Just want to give respect to Andrew Booth for leaving it all on the field against Iowa State. He could have opted out and I wouldn't have blamed him.

Hope he becomes a star in the NFL.

He was already a top 10 pick. I think

By not ending that punk’s life the other night showed teams more than anything else he did. I also think Terrell being the top corner in all of football helps him a little too.

Agreed, he could have sat out. I respect him a lot for playing.

Hope he has a big NFL career

Agree he showed why he is special but

Jan 1, 2022, 3:25 PM

Disagree that I would not have blamed him for not playing.

I think it shows horrible character to not play in the bowl game regardless of your “pro” aspirations. I’m grateful Booth showed why teams should respect his game AND his commitment to his team and teammates. That is a guy I want on my team.

To each his own

Jan 1, 2022, 3:41 PM

If you think every player that opted out of a non-CFP bowl game has "horrible character", I think you are dead wrong.

You want horrible character? Try Brian Kelly.

I'm sick and tired of this sport letting coaches do whatever they want, whenever they want "because that's how it is with coaching" while tying the hands of players who haven't had the opportunity to tap into wealth.

I'll settle this. I hate it when coaches and players quit!

Pitt starting QB was right to sit out

Jan 1, 2022, 4:10 PM

I can see many on Tnet disagree with my perspective. But the backup Pitt QB broke his collarbone by having a Mich St player jump on him on the ground. The same play would have cost the Pitt starter $5-10M.

My question about all this T-Net quitter talk is how many of you would turn down a $5-10M payout for yourself or your children? My guess is very few.

why would it cost him that money. he will heal just fine. pickett and every other opt out are quitters plain and simple. check out herbstreit video.

I 100% agree. Picket quit on his team plain and simple. He chose self over team.

Socman2 - I get what you are getting at. But, why play against South Carolina then? Or against UCONN? I mean, Clemson knew early in the year it wasn't going to the CFP. Why compete?

They already have a good video on him?

The notion SocMan2 that you have been on campus and training and playing games for 3 years and "All-of-A-Sudden" you are going to get hurt in this final game is: "scare tactic agent talk"!

I know what happened to the Ole Miss QB! But, how many players played in bowl games since opting out became a big thing "And Didn't Get Hurt"!

I think this will eventually lead to a talent like Andrew Booth(not him but a talent like him with a high draft grade) sitting out the 2nd half of teams seasons! Today it's the bowl game, tomorrow it will be the last regular-season game or only half the season out of straight-up - "FEAR"!

But, the same players can get hurt and if you watch it with me - because it happens yearly - they get hurt in training for the draft! Hamstrings, Pectoral tears, Bicep tears, ACL's you name it.

Totally irrational fear brought on by an agent that's only thinking about lining their own pocket.

I don't blame guys for sitting out, but I certainly give credit to the ones opting to play. As far as losing money, most of these guys that are going to be high draft picks have insurance policies paid for by the schools. All of them would rather play in the NFL, but enough money is guaranteed that they will not have to have a real job.

Re: To each his own

I really respect Booth for playing but would not blame him at all if he didn’t. This is the reason: those of us that grew up with opportunities/money etc can say what we would do if this was us but we don’t truly understand how many of these players grew up since we’ve never been there. Single parents, poverty in some cases. NFL money can change lives. I think he’s awesome. Really admire that.

Another thing: I saw where Will Shipley was donating his NIL money for the Sh1p Happens merchandise to charity. He doesn’t have to do that and it’s really thoughtful and generous of him. He’s also from Weddington, NC which per the internet is the wealthiest zip code in the state of North Carolina. It shouldn’t be as big of a sacrifice to give that money away as someone with a very different background. Either way the players earn this money and can do what they want with it. Just a little perspective here.

You either live by a set of values

Jan 1, 2022, 4:38 PM

Or you don’t. I would never recruit or hire (NFL) a person who didn’t have a foxhole mentality. I get some of you think money is all (or a huge part) that matters but success in life is never about your paycheck.

And for the record, I grew up with little other than two parents, a home and basic food so don’t lump me in with the ridiculous “wealthy” argument.

Re: You either live by a set of values

Good for your values. I also have them. You are wrong if you think many people don’t measure success with money. Just because you or I may not doesn’t mean many people do. At least you had a home and 2 parents. Many people don’t. I had a home with divorced parents and a mom that worked 2 jobs and consider myself very lucky indeed. I wanted for nothing. It’s easier to give money away when you or your family need nothing.

Quitters are quitters, Mo

Jan 1, 2022, 5:08 PM [ in reply to To each his own ]

They all show a lack of character by letting their team down. A sign of the culture we live in today.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Booth is a great DB and he played well

Jan 1, 2022, 5:04 PM

He has a bright future in the league. But if he had quit on his team and sat out the bowl game I would have lost a lot of respect for him. I’m so glad he manned up and met his responsibility to his teammates, his coaches, and the school that put him in the position to go earn $millions… not to mention the free college education.
