Dec 23, 2020, 1:04 PM

After watching a mediocre UF team make the Bama D look like Swiss cheese, I certainly do.
Just like 2018 they are very beatable even though ESPN tells you they are not.

I too believe 'Bammer is beatable, but the cantankerous leprechauns are not the ones to do it. The Tigers will.

This. Bama is too fast at the skill positions. We have seen this year after year. In the Championship phase, fasted team with the best QB wins.

Yeah but we’ve all seen ND choke in big game after big game, save of course our regular season match up w/out TL and Skalski, Jones, Davis etc. plus it was in there house. Away from home... they can’t win a game like that.

Not likely, but also not impossible. ND is humble again now after last Saturday. Hopefully they will shut up and work.

I do think ND will be the best Defense Bama has faced all year and like others have mentioned, teams with reasonably good offenses can move the ball on Bama.

Not really. Just like OSU, the Irish were also given special exceptions (ie temporary ACC football
membership) to qualify.

Best defense bama has seen and probably the most capable team to move the ball with short passes and running/scrambles to keep drives alive. To beat bama they will need to work clock to keep it out of bama hands and hope for a few stops or turnovers. If Ian scrambles and gets lucky like he did vs us and NC I think they make it a game.

Re: does anybody really think the irish can beat bama?

Dec 23, 2020, 1:47 PM

It would probably take a few bad breaks from Bama (maybe a pick-6 or 2) but it's certainly possible. I believe Clemson's Defense is better than Alabama's, so Bama may not be able to keep them out of the end zone as well as Clemson did last week.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You don't have to be better overall, just better on one day.

Dec 23, 2020, 1:48 PM

That said, while I think Notre Dame will be the best team Bama has faced so far this season, I still think Bama wins but the game will be much closer than the 20-point spread.

My only concern is Clemson Ohio State.
If we somehow lose that game, I could care less.
I'll probably watch the other game; The one on The Game Show Network.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think ND can stop the run and DBs are above average.

is capable of beating another team in the top 4. If the Irish are going to upset Bama they will need to play a near perfect game while Bama will have to miss on a few things. So while I believe the Irish have a chance to beat Bama, it is a very small chance where the odds are not in their favor.

Maybe, if Bama has a COVID outbreak that sidelines many of their skill players. Otherwise, expect a similar game to the one we just played with ND. But Bama is beatable. Our Tigers are going to do them the honor. Go Tigers!

Not I. But I'm sure there are a few people who think they can.

But, I don't think it is the most one sided game that day. I think Clemson beats OSU worse than Bama beats ND.

I think ND is 2 or 3 TD's better than OSU.

Re: does anybody really think the irish can beat bama?

Dec 23, 2020, 4:16 PM

No I dont think so... but ND could use the ACCCG experience to fix some flaws and give them a decent game. With no OOC games to get any kind of cross references this year, who knows what kind of surprises we might be in for?
ND and Clemson are likely best prepared for the playoff since they already have played two CFP level games whereas OhSt's best games were Indiana and NW. Bama did get UF at least which challenged them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: does anybody really think the irish can beat bama?

Dec 23, 2020, 4:56 PM

Sure. You mean SEC speed? That’s so overblown. The bama receivers are GREAT. Beyond that ND compares favorably. With an oline and dline as sold as the Irish have I think they can win. I wouldn’t bet my house on it but there have certainly been bigger upsets in college football than this would be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: does anybody really think the irish can beat bama?

Dec 23, 2020, 5:04 PM

YES. Lots of posts on here about BAMA's speed. The way to beat speed is run straight at it. ND can do it with their lines. Then Play action to Big TEs. Slow the game down. Maybe force a TO.

BAMA could blow their doors off, but if ND stays patient, its possible.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: does anybody really think the irish can beat bama?

Dec 23, 2020, 7:44 PM

I think that ND's offense can control the clock like they did against us in November. If they can keep Bama's offense off of the field, they have a chance to win.

For every minute over 35 that they hold the ball, their chances of winning increase dramatically.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You have to play the game. That is their chance

Dec 23, 2020, 7:59 PM

ND's actual chance of winning is very slim. Everything has to go right for them. Their margin for error is razor thin.

They will need 2-3 TOs just to be in the ballpark. Mac Jones must have a terrible day and miss open receivers because ND won't be able to cover them, that's for sure.

On offense, efficiency will matter more than running time off the clock. They must score TDs in the red zone, especially with an unreliable kicker.

Alabama will probably lay 50 points on them and win going away. ND somehow must score ~35 and hope TOs keep Alabama under that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: does anybody really think the irish can beat bama?

Dec 23, 2020, 8:43 PM

Why not? If 'Bama comes in with that mindset they may be in for a long night... that is a good football team. We were better Saturday, and I do think we played better not that they played worse. We did a match, much better job of keeping Book from making plays in space. He absolutely killed us the first game in space, he did it the first drive and then they stalled. Second drive was similar and the field goal doink... DJ and TL put up the same number of points, we just did not give up points.

Watching 'Bama vs Florida (and A&M earlier this year) they don't make mistakes and the pounce on your mistakes. IF ND doesn't make mistakes (int's, fumbles, penalties) they can play with them. Florida D could not make the plays and get the stop when they needed it, they kept scoring.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nope. Think it will be a 3 score game at least.***
