You CAN critique and not want the HC fired...Really!

Sep 19, 2021, 11:47 AM

There are those that get hyper-triggered if anyone dares to make in critical comment about the team, players, coaches. It's as if you must pledge blind fidelity. As "The Rock" would say:

Then there are those who want to nuke entire coaching staff for making a bad call.

Why can't people be critical and still support the coach and team? That's part of what being a fan is about.

The bottom line is this team isn't as good as expected on offense. Not by a long shot. I've been reluctant to put as much of the blame on TE as others but I'm moving in that direction.

The single biggest issue is DJ just isn't that good right now. I've compared him to Logan Thomas and I feel stronger about that now than I did before. He's a big stationary QB with lousy foot work, afraid to release the ball, inability to make plays and locks his eyes on the target. He relies solely on his arm strength and his accuracy is just bad.

Is DJ's problems coachable or is the College game to tough for him right now? If you bench him he'll leave the program. That's the problem with the transfer rule.

I'm glad the ACC is way down this year because we will win a lot of games that we would normally lose. We could lose a could to teams like Wake and UNC/VT if they make the ACCCG.

The challenge right now is getting the team ready to play a team in Raleigh that can’t wait for Saturday to get here,

I’m concerned because I see a lot of things that need a quick fix.

Will this team be ready for a true road game against a team better than GT?

A LOT of work to be done this week in Clemson.

DJU is not a Spread HUNH QB..He's built for Pro-Set

As stationary as he is, a Pro-set would be better for him.

We can lose to any team remaining on our schedule with the possible exception of UConn.

I agree that being critical of a product that is not living up to expectations doesn't mean firing the staff, but fans do and should expect more. We are having top 10 recruiting classes every year now. Venebles crafts the available talent on defense into a cohesive unit yearly and makes changes to the scheme when needed.

Can we say the same on the offensive side of the ball? When Mark Richt criticizes your ability to create route sequences that work - then the problems are obvious.

Great post. I’ll go one further along the same line of thinking, someone being critical of Dabo or Elliott or Streeter doesn’t mean the person doesn’t appreciate what they’ve done. Criticism of the current product on offense doesn’t discount what’s been accomplished in the past. We’re not going to reload every year. Very few programs can. I’d argue, our ability to develop the O-line and do enough to win titles in both 2016 and 2018 raises the bar for subsequent seasons. Fans are understandably asking what happened in the past couple years that O-line play has regressed (and tbh, it was never elite). Doesn’t make you a coot or dumper to ask these questions.

For the record, I don’t think any of our coaches should be fired right now. College football is littered with big money programs with delusional fan bases that have descended into the purgatory of mediocrity largely because they fire coaches too quickly. We can get better without doing that.

For anyone who finds themselves so frustrated watching the offense, and I’m sure there are many of us, try watching the replay of the games and only watch the defense. They are worth watching twice. Go Tigers!
