You better be real sure before you start taking BP meds...

Feb 12, 2015, 12:07 PM

because of the potential side effects. Read all you can, then read some more.

I have a family history of heart disease and hypertension. So far I've been winning the argument with my GP (she wants me on meds) by eating healthy, keeping my cholesterol in check, and exercising. I average 135/75 BP, but have been as high as 171/96. Today, I am 156/96.

It is not uncommon for BP med takers to take additional meds to compensate for BP med side effects.

I may soon lose the argument with my GP, but I'm trying real hard.

Good luck.

Yeah I've put it off as long as I can and mine was similar to you but today it was really high 195/113. So I think I'm at the no choice stage. But I tried to avoid it when I could. But now.... I'm in a have to point. So here we go

I got diagnosed with hypertension at an early age and they are still fiddling with meds 18 years later. One thing that always works to bring it down is to get moving and stay away from processed foods. Hard to do when some of those meds knock you on your backside but if they find one that works, they don't care what else it is doing to you.

You'll feel better if you can get it under control. There ARE side effects to the hbp meds, but in the medical literature, the long term results of untreated hbp can lead to cognitive loss and dementia. (Lord knows we don't need anymore coot fans!)

Got mine treated and feel a lot better. Plus, if you can get your weight (if that's an issue) under control and exercise, you can come off it.

Good luck and go Tigers!

I think you r right. I just took my first pill a bit ago. I'm kinda worried about taking it. I don't want to kill over or something but I did it. Kinda have to it seems.

I do need to lose weight too. I'm not a huge guy or nothing but I'm like 25 lbs over my ideal weight. But I'm sure that would help a lot
