i know it's been a long time, but I enjoy it, every time.

Especially to a team that celebrates by crip walking***

Howard getting to the sweet 16 is a real "feel good" story.***

Wish he was still the Clemson coach and we could at least watch the Tigers in some post season action.

If you are happy that Michigan, coached by Howard, won, I will pray for you. Blame Rick's wife not him.

yep was thinking the same

in watching the fawning after mich won..remember their coach punched another coach just a few weeks ago after a game..yet here he is coaching in the sweet 16 as if he did nothing at all

Yall trying to keep a brother down, Coach Ju didn't throw a punch, he got a "tick", a medical condition. It's a condition similar to the one that Numb Nutz ###### Joe Biden has been plagued with for years! For reals! For really real

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, dat be's one way to 'splain it, I guess.

Mar 20, 2022, 8:11 AM

Brown-L would have just gave a look like he ate a truckload of sour grapes, and turned and slunk away. (Not that I advocate punching opposing coaches. But, at least it showed he cared.)

Howard made a mistake and it was dumb. He apologized and admitted it. Otherwise he’s had a pretty stellar career as a player and coach. I hope one incident isn’t used to define him. While you’re praying, perhaps ask about forgiveness and grace.

I think this moment is more indicative of Howard the man:

The court. I was a student when he ran off in the middle of the night and left us in the lurch. Also, you always root against the SEC it’s a no brainer.

I must have no brain. I dislike the Big 1G more than the SEC. When they play each other it will depend on the teams who I want to lose.

I like Michigan. I'm friends with a former head coach from there and I've always liked their helmets and their toughness. I also liked the Fab 5 and I like Juwan Howard. I don't give a rip what you think about that.

He is actually a pretty cool dude, not sure why you would want to see him fail, he worked this tail off while he was here and gave us some great memories. People move on for better opportunities, that is just life. No reason to hate on him 25 years later.

Mar 20, 2022, 8:46 AM

I stopped caring years ago, but I am pretty sure that most people didn't like the way that he left. He had just hired the Virginia guy as an assistant and then leaves in the middle of the night. As often as not, it is not what you do but how you do it.

There is really never a good way to leave a school, a family, or a friend. It's not possible.

I simply shake my head at every Rick Barnes post here. You fellas are clearly not basketball fans if you want Rick Barnes back. He went to a final 4 with an incredible point guard at Texas, otherwise he has underachieved year after year after year. At Texas, he lost in the first round with Kevin Durant in the lineup. Just let that sink in a minute if you have a brain cell.

Rick Barnes is a good guy relative to other CBB coaches

Mar 20, 2022, 8:02 AM

I felt bad for him when he was run out of (the real) UT and was glad for him when he landed at (the other) UT.

This year, I thought they had a legit chance to win the whole thing. Saturday was my son's wedding so I was not able to watch but I am stunned they are gone. They should have rolled past Michigan. What a bitter loss for a coach who loves his players and is loved by them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bitterness is a poison. I feel sorry for those that hold

grudges and can’t move forward in life. Especially over sports.

Rick’s a great coach and did great things while at Clemson. Just as most on here would move on from their current job if they felt it was time to do so, he did the same. If you’ve seen recent interviews with him, he is grateful for the time he spent at Clemson. No reason we shouldn’t be either.

Coach Barnes blew it

Mar 20, 2022, 8:31 AM

Coach Barnes blew his chance.

Barnes arrived at Clemson in 1994. He blew his opportunity to coach at one school in the ACC for 30-35 years. He would have been coaching in the best conference, against the best other coaches in his lifetime at a great university in a great community that really appreciated his work. Clemson has proven we can and will pay great coaches as much as anyone in the country. He could have been a legendary, big winner who took a single school with little history to the top of the sport. His family would have grown up in a great location, his kids could have attended the same university they cheered for when they were young and he'd have been working in a single place that won Nattys in football, soccer, and golf.

He would have coached against Smith, K, Roy, Boeheim, and Tony Bennett all who won National Titles while he was whiffing it in the the minor leagues, being Mr. Note Quite All That. Does Texas give a hoot about Barnes, the guy got them close then left them? Who at Providence remembers anything about his time there. At Tennessee in his very old age he's coaching in a league with little round ball history at a school who will always revere the women's basketball coach more than anything about the men's sport.

Barnes had a shot but missed. I think he believed deep down he did not have the chops to really beat the best coaches in the best basketball league and so jumped to a football town that has made as many trips to the final four as South Carolina.

Texas? He left Clemson for Texas? I'll tell you how stupid Texas is. Football is their sport. They hired the football coach from UNC!?

Barnes gave us some good memories. But he did not give us all he had and by running away, he missed his chance at becoming legendary.

I shed no tears for Rick Barnes. I am not surprised he lost yesterday against an 11th seed.

Re: Coach Barnes blew it

Mar 20, 2022, 8:56 AM

They were so stupid to hire the coach from UNC for football? I guess you forgot that he led them to 9 straight 10 win seasons, 2 National Championship games, and 1 National Championship.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Coach Barnes blew it

Mar 21, 2022, 9:47 AM

Clearly he doesn't follow either basketball or football all that well.

Barnes left Clemson because he would never have been a Duke, UNC or any other top ACC program and that's a fact. Barnes is also not a very good coach and underachieves yearly with good talent.
